Sorry to hear about that, BC.
My life is thankfully going well. Aside from my new jobs as reviewer, film producer, and aid to special care students, I'm also now working as a waiter at a prestigious (and tip heavy) restaurante.

Wow, last time we had a post in this thread, it was about my granpa sliding on ice and knocking himself out.
Well, as of today, things went worst. My grandpa died a little more than a month ago. And then, it has been three weeks now that my boss told me that the big big boss (the one own who owns the newspaper) wanted me out. Today, I got the confirmation that it was over for me, that I had to look for a new job as of September 25th, it will my last day of work.
I had to tell my grandma about the fact that maybe, I will have to place her in an old folk home if I don't get something near here. Sucks a lot. It is a very emotive time for me, especially since the house she lives in has been in the family since 1881. I hope that I will find something near here so that she could end her life in this house (she's 94 by the way).

Ouch man. Sorry to hear that. Fortunately I've never experienced anything like what you're going through, but it sounds really horrible. Hope you get a new job quickly, and it all goes well.

Agreed, you've gone through a lot recently. I hope this is as bad as it gets, and that things take a turn for the better very, very soon. Good luck with your work hunt.

Thanks guys! The real problem is not to find a new job: it's to find a job close of where I live to avoid having to put grandma in an old folks home.
But for now, I know that I can live through until the beginning of 2010 as I have a big enough financial cushion. After that, I will really need a new job.

How is the shift from paper and ink journalism to website-based journalism going in the industry? With your computer knowledge aswell as journalism resume you might be able to get in on the development of a news site further afield while still being able to live closer to home.

Yes, that's something to consider. I could look for something like this. I know there is such a website in the region, but it is currently run by unpaid volunteers. Anyways, for now, I'm thinking of finishing these two weeks and then take some kind of vacations. I've worked there for more than 3 years and only took 2 weeks of vacations.

Sounds like you'd need one even without the other things going on in your life!

Apologies for not responding sooner, just checked this thread.
Job loss is a terrible and disturbingly frequent occurrence these days. My dad has been out of work for six years now (eight, maybe?) and my family is in danger of losing their home, so I know what you are going through, believe me. Aside from nude modeling and the occasional film tidbit, I am also currently jobless and living with my parents (aboard the sinking ship).
Hope is the only solace. I wish you lots of luck.

Best of luck in all your job-hunting efforts - hope you can find what you want, where you want it.
And yes - take that holiday!

BC, Zipp, I wish you guys the best of luck. The economy sucks all over the world and so many people remain jobless (myself included). I've been getting a small unemployment insurance check once a week from the government, but I'm quite grateful for it.
Would you guys consider looking for a job outside of your current industry? All the people I know who got a job within the past year had to look outside of their field. One person actually moved halfway around the world to a place with a cheaper cost of living.
