The final event of the Magnamund Rescue... Now taking sign-ups.
I'll not be playing in this one since there are too many rolls and decisions which requires an outsider.
The challenge:
Make your way to and destroy the Beacon Of Power.
Expect more varied enemies in this one. Opponents will have psychic and magic attacks, and also AoE and ranged attacks.
Enemies can be avoided or surprised. If you are not careful you can be surprised.
Some enemies will have loot. Sometimes they will use the loot against you.
For this last challenge, each player can ask for an additional Special Item of your choice.
Special items include: - Bor Rifle or Bor Pistol including 20 Boom Powder and enough Bullets. - A weapon of any type with a +1 to attack and +1 elemental damage of your choice. - Wands - A +1 Stat item: Helm of Focus: +1 Mind while worn. Necklace of Alertness: +1 Eye while worn. Boots of Speed: +1 Speed while worn. Gauntlets of Strength: +1 Strength while worn. - Wands - Grenades
There are a lot of items which can benefit the character, either by enhancing abilities or granting protection.
The one who wins the challenge will get to keep the item selected. If you don't win, you will be asked to return the loan.
The challenge is an overland challenge. You can either opt to co-perate with someone else or try to solo towards the Beacon.

What do grenades do? Might go for an enchanted axe though, somewhat underwhelmed by my melee performance in the shootout.

Hmm, depending on how busy I am in the next few weeks I might decide to bow this one out.
Be nice to finish the tournament and keep some nice items for my character on future matches, but like Doomy I am a little underwhelmed at my character build for dealing with too much melee nor ranged attacks.
I think I'd need to find good items or use good tactics, most of which require me to actually be focusing hard on the game during the evening! Not my strong suit at the moment!
I'll see how I am placed, if I do play then definitely the Bor Pistol or Rifle, I think previous games have shown they are the must have item when played correctly.

Wouldn't be the same without ya, Wuufy. I'd rather delay this until you can participate than start now if you can't.

The Overland Challenge will have a much slower pace and last over a longer time.
Shadowgate Shootout is one of the shorter and the most intensive event.
As for Grenades. They do Area of Effect (AoE) damage over a bigger area. You will only get 2 of these.
For Beowuuf: Since your best stat is Mind, you want something which allows you to use your Mind score to do other things, or improves the abilities you already have.
You can have the following item:
Vakeros Power Diadem: Lets you cast all (currently 7) of the Vakeros Power Words and increases the effect of cast Power Words. The effect is the one you would have recevied if you had put 1 more Mana into the spell. Must be worn on Head slot to have this effect. Wearer must be able to cast spells and have a Mind score of 2 or more to benefit.
NOTE: You still have to use at least 1 Mana to cast Power Words.
Remember the difference between Pistols and Rifles.
Rifles are long ranged accurate weapons for a single target.
Pistols are used for 'directional' crowd control at close range.

Thanks for the kind words people. Hmm, still vulnerable to magic, but the increased flexibilty and power is definitely tempting. I was just very conscious of being geared up for close combat one on one and apparently not being good at that aganst higher level opponents, while not having much long range protection. I think the diadem sounds like somethign I would go with. Anyway, we still have to finish the Shadowgate I guess! Oh, and I need to get back to work or else I may as well have stayed at home

My understanding is that the Overland Challenge takes place in a maze, right? Making close combat more likely than long ranged encounters? In which case I would choose a Pistol over the rifle. I'm assuming I get one of these for free due to my class. For the axe, I'd like a fire-based enchantment as this would presumably allow me to use the weapon as a light source if needed.

Now I've read the Tier description, I also see I'm not as bad a set up fighter as I thought, just Tier IVs really are that powerful

Hmm, still vulnerable to magic, but the increased flexibilty and power is definitely tempting. I'll allow you to switch your Cloak for one like the one Doomy has. 50% Reduction fo Magic damage. One of the Power Words increases Stealth so you will be able to gain the same effect for shorter times.

It's an overland challegne so the old system with Rooms will go away. I.e you will be able to fire at long range assuming you see the enemies at long range. This is not guaranteed since enemies will typically be hiding and in stealth. The scene is the ruins of a village. There are some walls and natural sectors to prevent passage in every direction from every point, but the level of freedom you have in movement is much greater. I will probably open one thread for each competitor, and give each of you your own Map. If anyone chooses to co-operate they will be handled in one thread instead of two. If you come close enough to the beacon, you will enter a common inner map, where all events will be handled in one thread. Only when you have come this far is it needed to synchronize the players.

Are the firing rules for the Pistol as per Casiorn?

Are the firing rules for the Pistol as per Casiorn? More or less. I haven't decided on exactly which rule revisions there will be.

Hm... I'm going for a camping for 4 days starting tomorrow, so I can only join afterwards.... would that be a problem? No. I do not think the overland challenge will be started then, and for this one it is possible to start late also.
