"Hmm, it seems each person requires a unique object to forge. For now, we are in no danger of giving an advantage if we seek our own items. I will describe mine clearly to you, you retell your details to me, and I suggest we split up and work our way along the hall.
There is no use planning for forging if we have no items. Might I suggest you call no attention to either item if you find it, that you simply remember its position and carry on to meet at the other side of the hall. I do not believe success will be looked upon kindly here."

The two journeymen study an enscription by the side of the portal, and discuss briefly between them.
"Mostly, like the other Hall."
"As I suspected it would be. At a guess we will find the items in a difficult to access place."
"At a guess I'd say somewhere high up. Lot of things hanging down from the ceiling here."
The male journeyman looks up. "Perhaps. There seems to be arrangements here for climbing up, and look there. Those two have the same idea as you."
eviltb looks at the two journeymen as they prepare to move away.
"I guess we can save you the trouble of reading the script. You need to find the item you see in the portal's mirror. It is personal so everyone will see a different item, much like everything else in this place. Judging by the script the item will be located in a place which is difficult to access. Exactly where is anybody's guess."

eviltb watches the 2 men leave, then approaches the mirror to see what item is revealed.

"Sounds like a good plan," says the dwarf. You take the eastern half of the hall, I shall take the western half." With that, Doomy backtracks to the entrance he came in from before beginning a leisurely sweep of his desingated area.
Beowuuf has a PM detailing what is sought. In game terms, my actions are to slowly move through the hall with maximum search.

Beowuuf nods and takes his side of the hall, being careful not to engage with any of the groups around during his search.

Right. Bewouuf is avoiding all gathered groups. Same for you Doomy?
There are lots of shelves and loose decorations. Are you looking more closely at those?
Are you primarily looking at the interiors, the ceiling, the walls, the floor or spreading out your attentions between all? Something of the above you are not looking at during this sweep ?
What things would motivate your character to look more closely at something ?

Same thing as for Beowuuf and Doomy applies to you.
If you want to you can also try to deceipher the text. Roll 1d10-1 on IC if you do so.

You make a careful search on your way south. There are cutlery in some cupboards and on some shelves, but you have little luck finding something that looks like the item you or Beowuuf seeks. Almost all are plain or are embellished in a very different way than what you are looking for.
In one of the cupboards you find many filled bottles. You deduce that they are filled with various acids and bases. On some shelves you find other bottles which by the looks of it contains wines and licqors.
Most of the shelves are filled with large books, however. You give these only a cursory glance. Piles of ore, and metal ingots can be found a little bit everywhere.
You are about half way down the Hall when you spot a Vassagonian walking northwards. In his hands he is clutching an item. It is not the one you are looking for but when he moves closer it is the closest you have seen so far.
It seems the Vassagonian is intending to walk past you without stopping.

Doomy addreses the Vassagonian: "Hold a moment please, what is that you have there? I am looking for something similar."

There are lots of shelves and loose decorations. Are you looking more closely at those? Certainly the shelves but not, for now, the decorations. Are you primarily looking at the interiors, the ceiling, the walls, the floor or spreading out your attentions between all? Something of the above you are not looking at during this sweep ? Probably look to the walls most, carefully checking shelves and cupboards and looking for blocked or hidden recesses. Each 'section' of the hall probably take a check at the floor or ceiling to look for odd features (hanging baskets, buckets on the floor, perhaps odd ladders to nowhere that might hint at hidden ceiling or hoops on the floor hinting at trap doors) What things would motivate your character to look more closely at something ? The possibility of something hidden (room features), or closeness to the items looked for (items might be encrusted with dirt, or had decorations chipped off). In Doomy's example, I would probably let the Vassgonian go unmolested unless it did look like it could be damage that makes the item seem different Also, of course, still looking for sources of fire - so take a note of anything wooden, anything coal-like, and most importantly any form of bellows and tinderbox for starting and tending a large heat.

In the north-westerna part of the Hall you observe a couple of people. Most of them seemingly deep in thought, while others are resting or going about their own business.
There is enough of them for you to be unable to look more closely at this area without interacting, so I will asume you give them a wide berth for now, since there are few shelves and decorations in this part.
Further south, you find some shelves. One of them is a store of mushrooms cultivated underground. It is filled with four different types of mushrooms.
There is another store which contains other provisions. They look different from what would normally be found on the surface. From one open sack you deduce that this is a food store, perhaps from crops grown underground.
Further south are shelves with books and you find a racket containing sledges, picks and shovels.
You are half-way through the Hall when you espy a open door leading to an adjacent chamber, and seeing the light of fire inside you investigate it.
Entering the room you notice that you have found a warm smithy and the smith, a dwarf. When you enter a Salonese soldier hands over a small meat-axe to the Smith and asks if he can trade it.
"What do y'a want in return?" the dwarf asks.
"A brooch with a green moose head," comes the reply.
The dwarf examines the meat-axe and peers at the mercenary before replying: "Aye, that can be arranged. Wait here."
The dwarf rumuages about in some shelves and takes out a small brooch. He places the brooch in the fire for a short while and then works with it with a plier. Three minutes later he returns to the Salonese and proffers him the brooch.
"Here y'a go lad."
The Salonese soldier thanks the smith and turns to leave.
You are free to wait doing nothing (probably looking more closely at the smithy), talk to Salonese or simply continue your search while the smith works; indicate which of these you will do. (I will however assume that you do not try to disturb the busy smith.)
