My latest gives me a chance to rant about kids movies: www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5140-Portland-Indie-Film-Examiner~y2009m4d9-Kids-get-it-best-of-film-nudityBy the way, if anyone had trouble accessing my last article, it was because I got banned for a short time for posting and discussing male nudity! They didn't mind the giant vagina, but they got REALLY offended when I wrote about a man's penis getting whacked. The Examiner quickly reinstated me and my articles when I showed them that I've become the third most read NW Examiner in only a month of writing. That's thanks to everyone who clicks on my links and shares them, so thank you!

Interesting point about kids' films, and I agree with you. When I was a kid, I found a lot of kids' films annoying. They're...crass; the equivalent of fluorescent yellow.

They didn't mind the giant vagina, but they got REALLY offended when I wrote about a man's penis getting whacked. Weird. Your piece on Bond's piece got complaints? While the vagina photo didn't? What exactly was your brief for this series? I kinda assumed that since you're being paid to write for the Examiner, someone might have said "Hey Jonathan, we want a series of articles looking at various aspects of screen nudity in a lighthearted yet grown-up and well-considered manner. Get cracking." And that same person would presumably have read what you came up with before putting it online. Does this thing not have editors?

Finally read a couple of the articles(The Bond one and your latest)... They're a bit short aren't they ? And they don't really go anywhere or tell us a whole lot. I do quite like your writing style - Like Doomy says, it's light-hearted but grown up - and the points you do make are valid - But I'd rather read something a bit more in depth.
I'll have to go read your Honest Gamers stuff (can't in work, it's a blocked site) I think.
EDIT: Just taken a look at a couple of other articles on that site. Seems they're all about the same length. So I guess you're limited in word count in some way, which makes my critisiscm kind of moot.

@ Doomy: It wasn't the Bond piece, it was the Realm of the Senses piece, which originally had a photo of a naked man in it. As for my brief, I wasn't given one. I suggested the nudity idea, and it was accepted.
@ GB: Yeah, there's a couple things going on there.
One, we do have word limits that we're SUPPOSED to stick to, though we can stretch it (as will happen with my play review of Cannibal Cantagion that will come around as soon as the creator gets back to me with some info).
Two, I'm supposed to write four articles a week, and I simply don't get paid enough to write essays. It takes long enough to write and edit a small article, let alone a full report. Along with this, I get paid per article and how many times it's clicked on. So it behooves me, financially, to have smaller articles more often.
Three, I tend to like to keep things short in reviews. My video game reviews usually vary from 800-1000 words and I REALLY don't like to go beyond that. As a reader, I find if a reviewer hasn't gotten the point across in a 1000 words, something is wrong. Unless it's REALLY REALLY well written.
Thanks everyone for reading!

I've seen In The Realm of The Senses/Ai No Koriida. Believe it or not, it was shown uncut on British TV channel Film Four. It would be difficult to find a still from it that didn't have nudity in it.
