Hit points and guns are my main concern rite now. Need to weigh up the pros/cons of each ship I guess....

Assuming you want to keep the same weapon mix:
1. Upgrade your subcannon, as the Assault Gun is underpowered for your level. The Type-D Subcannon offered at the Amraan port is an excellent replacement you could use now.
2. Upgrade your main cannons, as the Advanced Cannon are now underpowered for your level. Either the Long Barrel at the Imperial port or the Fireball Cannon at the Amraan port are decent replacements you can use now (though the Long Barrel is much pricier).

Twin Long Barrels and Type-D Subcannon duly fitted, thanks. I've been trying to buy a Swashbuckler Sail at the auctions for so long I've not been keeping track of what other upgrades I can buy. Why do those sails command such high prices anyway? I've seen them go for 80,000+ gold but the game says they're only worth 17K or so.

Scarcity. Because they are a "Rare" item, that drives up the price people will pay for them (often just for the distinction, if you will, of having it at all). In some cases, it can get quite ridiculous (there are some Rare items that are not as good in the same "effective level range" as Common items of the same type).

True, which is why I stay away from trying to buy stupidly overpriced rare crap.
Anyway, Im changing ship at lvl 33 to the Imperial Vanguard, will give me the same weapon slots and more HP in the long run as it levels. Then probably onto the Imperial Battle Royale, Imperials seem to be the best for Pirates.

The Pirate Sail and the Swashbuckler sail are superior to other sails of their own level.
As for what it is worth, I refer to the buying price which I still have in my inbox.
You have won the bid for Swashbuckler Sail (Cost: 20091 gold).
I'd say the cheaper but still quite good rare Pirate Sail is worth about 10k Gold.
The morale is that patience is a virtue and if exercised you can purchase cheap parts on the auctions.

At the same time, of course, make certain your patience does not impede your attention to when a certain Rare item becomes obsolete.

You were lucky to get a Swashbuckler Sail that cheaply.

I finally got my Swashbuckler Sail, for "just" 50,000 gold. My Pirate Sail is now available for auction if anyone's interested.

Can someone tell me what type the ship attacking me here is? I've never seen it before.

That could be a stage 4 vessel, something like the Battle Royale maybe? Ive seen some wierd ships recently too, like a flying shrimp and a big gold head (literaly!). Still, nice escape there Doomy
