So we know that Kai and green cloaks go together like cheese and wine but I'm wondering whether the Kai traditionally use other greens or colours to distinguish rank? I don't recall anything mentioned in the early books and although I own the New Order books and the cover art shows grey / silver garb, I'm yet to read them.

If you check out one of the newsletters over at PA there was an answer to this question, i believe. Don't have the exact reference to hand though.

Cheers. I only ever saw a few newsletters early on in the piece. I know it sounds like an odd / unimportant question, especially in a gamebook / roleplaying context but I'm planning a bit of a project which requires more than the brain.
[edit] Okay, I've had a look and found the following colours in Newsletter 8;
KAI MASTER - Grey KAI MASTER SENIOR - Light Blue KAI MASTER SUPERIOR - Dark Blue PRIMATE - Green TUTELARY - Scarlet PRINCIPALIN - Orange MENTORA - Yellow SCION-KAI - White ARCHMASTER - Silver KAI GRAND MASTER - Gold
It says that the colour for the Magnakai level must be incorporated into their design for their uniform.
Sounds good to me, thanks for the newsletter tip.

And funnily, with the Mongoose forums going away, I checked the old posts and found confirmation that Matt Sprange is indeed the same Matt Sprange in the newsletters only a few days ago Glad you found it without too much hassles, I though it was there somewhere!

And funnily, with the Mongoose forums going away, I checked the old posts and found confirmation that Matt Sprange is indeed the same Matt Sprange in the newsletters only a few days ago One can only imagine that how he'd be pretty upset with how things panned out considering how far back his interest in it has stretched. Aside from the editing or content input he's probably had, I have no idea if he was involved with and decisions but regardless, I feel bad for him. Glad you found it without too much hassles, I though it was there somewhere! Yeah, it was easy and fun to find as I skimmed and not searched. I was reading all the Q&A's that had been published which was interesting. It just show's how much depth Joe has with his creation. Mind you, I wonder how much might have been thought up on the spot for questions like the innkeeper in Gorn Cove had lost an eye, how did this happen? When looking I first came across something to do with ranks it was to do with the shoulder badges and I wondered if that was what you might have thought it was but I kept reading and there it was.

Those colours come from the first Legends of Lone Wolf, I believe. I seem to recall that Joe had more involvement with that than he did with the later ones, so maybe we can take these colours as reliable. Even so, it's always seemed to me from the way Lone Wolf's green garb is described in the gamebooks that all of the Kai always wear green.
