As 'The Sun Sets' approaches its climatic duel between the characters and the Swamplord, I am starting to look ahead to the next campaign. There are a couple of my players in this game who have made it clear to me they would like me to continue running an online game at LWRPGoL, if I am willing. I also want my current group of players considering whether they want to continue or not. Two years is a long time and a lot can happen in that time (right Al? :-) ). So it may be time for some of you to consider whether you want to commit to another game or move on (I can't promise that the next game will be less than two years!
).
Those who have been following my game (both players-current, players-past and players-not-as-yet) know that I have woven in plot elements for future games into the current one. Several of those elements, in fact, as there is still much time before Lone Wolf returns to Aon and drops the heavy hammer on the Darklords once and for all. The point behind introducing all those elements, of course, is to see which ones interested people.
When this campaign ends, a new one will launch. I have talked with a couple people already, but do throw the doors open now to those who would like to join, rejoin or continue playing in my game. Further, I would like to start getting a sense for which plot elements people were interested in pursuing further. A story can only move in one general direction, so I cannot promise to be able to accomodate everyone's wishes. But I would like to have some input from those interested.
For those who want to join or rejoin, I use Green Ronin's True20 game system and will stick with that. I do require you to have some familiarity with the rules, though that familiarity isn't typically much more extensive than a willingness to look up in the rules when you need to. I also require all players to adhere to the Game Rules presently posted in "The Sun Sets". That is required reading for those interested. It's not a small commitment, posting something five days a week. But it's a requirement that makes for a good game, and I'm sticking with it.
The game is open to at least a couple more players, even if all the current players choose to remain. Any of my current players that want to move on will open up more places at the table.
For those of my existing players, there are a couple questions for you to consider in a future game. I introduced plot elements that would be interesting to each of your characters in the current game. Some of those "stuck" with one character or another, others just "slid off" (suggesting lack of interest). But I would like to solicit some more direct input on what you found interesting for a future game versus what you did not. This specifically includes plot elements that might have been introduced for another character aside from your own too.
Second, you do not have to retain the same characters and, indeed, I think some of you should not. Some of you have played the same character for over two years; others more like a year or so. Some or all of you might be interested in a change. Magnamund is a wide place. And with my using True20 now, instead of the old LWRPG, you are not bound into the published classes (or bound, like Alba, by the need to generate a class in order to play something not published). Either way, though, you are not locked into retaining the same character for a new game. In fact, as things get closer and I decide the direction of the new game, some of you may find your characters are not very suited to that direction. And so you will want to make a change for that reason (trust me, square pegs for round holes just suck...don't let a desire to be open-minded fool you there).
So start thinking about these things. Most of your characters' motivations in the present campaign will come to an end with this battle in the Danarg. Many of your characters have other interests or duties in the world too. So nothing says that you HAVE to keep things the same. A new game and new story opens new opportunities.
