after a long time i am back again, and promtly i need an answer
i introduced lw to my little nephew (11 years old) and he came up with a clever question
the question is:
am i allowed to use the sommerswerd in every fight after book 2 or just the ones which say: if you have the sommerswerd......
my first thought was: in every fight, but then he said: well in book 12 you are not allowed to use the sommerswerd till the last battle, but in the normal battles you can use it without penalty (exept one or two fights)
Looked at another way, every time you are hosed using the Sommerswerd, the gamebooks are explicitly clear about it. So the default is that it can be used in any situation.
There are just situations where using the sword may be detrimental. After all, you can actually try and use the Sommerswerd in Helgedad in Book 12. The gamebook gives you that option. You just get directed to the same "you are dead..." section if you do choose that option...
Well...if we stick to a strict interpretation of Rimoah's advice that the Sommerswerd is only to be used in the last battle...then we have to use normal weapons.
But there are two instances where you are prompted to use the Sommerswerd and you can actually wield it without incurring the death paragraph (once when fighting the Xargath and another when fighting the Drakkarim marines)
Unsheathing against Kraagenskul doens't alert everyone, just Kragenskul - if you can fight his spawn fast enough, you can kill him and keep your secret safe. So you can unsheathe in the darklands and get away with it! Just not Helgedad

If I remember, one of the Lone Wolf Club Newsletters mentions that using the Sommerswerd to kill Kraagenskul does alert Gnaag to Lone Wolf's presence on Magnamund... although this doesn't actually have any in-book consequences.
