E3 is mostly console based, and Diablo 3 isn't coming to console, I believe. Could be wrong.

E3 is mostly console based The computer games thread seems to be mostly console based. I could have complained about that but didn't. Not much but I can see why you see it. And what a pitty, they've changed their website again to make it look even uglier.

A visit to any videogames shop will confirm that gaming generally is mostly console-based these days. But I have a gaming PC now, so can talk more about PC games, like Dawn of War II, the new Monkey Island and Blood Bowl!

I am a little out of touch with the PC scene. What are your current favourite PC games that aren't also on consoles?

Hmmm. In no order of preference:
Turn-ons: single-player RPGs (turn-based combat preferred), some FPS (Serious Sam good, Tom Clancy bad) turn-based strategy, CCGs, shmups, space sims, puzzlers, some beat 'em ups, roguelikes, adventures, arcade/retro.
Turn-offs: MMOs, RTS (I enjoyed DoW 2 but that's an exception), football/football management sims, driving games, sneak 'em ups.
Basically I enjoy either mindless action or more cerebral games where you actually have time to think about what you're doing. And as I view games as escapist entertainment I tend to shy away from those which seek to recreate real life.

Isn't it just a tower defence game? There are thousands of those things available for free, what's so special about this one that it warrants shelling out money? Even if it is just £7.

Ooh, I never got round to reading page 1. By definition, MMOs involve other people. People you can't choose. Which means KotOR the MMO will be overrun with sub-literate 12-year olds with names such as Darth Mongoloid who say things like "OMG d00d I got da 1337 1ight5abr3!!!!111!!11ONE". What's more, every single one of them will dual-wield red lightsabres. Yeah, that's my big problem with MMOs. The game can be as brilliant as anything ever made, but the swarms of children will ruin it. A couple of weeks ago, I had a conversation in Shaiya that went like this: Stranger: Want plvl? Me: No thanks Stranger: I can get you 2 lvls in 30 mins Me: I appreciate the offer, but no thanks Stranger: wtf why? Me: I'd rather do it myself. Stranger: lol n00b He then proceeded to kill-steal me and generally get on my nerves for five minutes. Similarly, this one: Stranger: Team? Me: No thanks Stranger: Team pls Me: No Stranger: why? Me: I'm busy Stranger: n00b *sigh* It's a good thing I only play free ones. So, Doomy, I can fully sympathise with your disgust at what's going to become of the noble KOTOR legacy when it turns into an MMO.

Turn-ons: single-player RPGs (turn-based combat preferred Get a copy of Wizardry 8 if you can. It should be right up your street . I'd also heavily recommend Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2. They aren't turn based but with the pausing you can sort of control them okay. If you can find a copy of Evil Islands lying about anywhere that's good (it should've been called Rage of Mages 3 but the Rage of Mages games were so bad .....). I've even been digging out Soulbringer recently (and while half the controls don't work it's nice to hear non american accents in a computer roleplaying game). The Witcher is really good but the click in time combat controls (taken right out of Summoner, and almost as painfully difficult to use) kind of spoil it as does the fact you can see the blatant NWN1 style "ridges and ramps" type of scenery (thankfuly toned downa bit) with also fenced off areas you simply cannot get to. The cutscenes, voice acting, music, art, animations and everything else more than make up for it 'though. I'm tempted to recommend Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy (despite the names, Elven Legacy is blatantly just Fantasy Wars 2, probably trying to avoid being tarred with it's predecessor's reputation). They're very good but the normal difficulty level is hard (and the computer likes to cheat, cycling multiple units through the same hex in the same turn to concentrate fire in an unrealistic way since the turn it theoreticaly simultaneous even 'though it's activation by activation). The hard difficulty mode is obscene and the easy difficulty mode is what the normal difficulty mode would be on other games. Also the characters are about one and a half times the size of the units for some stupid reason but apart from that, they're both a lot of fun. Idiots. You meant idiots didn't you? There are some quite sensible children playing computer games (and lots of idiots out there ruining everyone else's fun).

The Witcher is really good but the click in time combat controls (taken right out of Summoner, and almost as painfully difficult to use) kind of spoil it I've considered The Witcher myself. If it controlls similarly to Summoner, that's a shame - but if you think Summoner's hard to control, try the (as far as I know) original incarnation in Vagrant Story. Each attack raises your Risk bar, which means you're more likely to miss the timing the longer your combo lasts. That makes sense, but the bad part is still to come: If you attack when your Risk bar is above about three or four percent, you'll probably only cause one point of damage with each attack, so you need to either 1) use a really long combo and make sure you don't mis-time an attack, or 2) use short combos and let your Risk go back to zero between combos - which is almost impossible since it decreases infinitesimally when your weapon is drawn. Potentially really good game, but horrible horrible horrible combat system. Idiots. You meant idiots didn't you? There are some quite sensible children playing computer games (and lots of idiots out there ruining everyone else's fun). Yeeeeees, I do broadly mean idiots, but it's been my experience that something like 80% of the people who play MMOs are about twelve. Some of them are fine, and some of the adults are obnoxious, but because kids on the brink of their teens form most of the population, most of the obnoxious players are also kids. Yes, some adults are just as bad, but a lot of the irritating behaviour of MMO players is simple immaturity.
