Browser-based MMO Legends of Zork is just as "free" as Kingdom of Loathing and works along similar lines. It's a good bit prettier and not as wordy though. Who said "dumbed down"? Check it out if you like, I had a go and it seemed pretty good if a bit short on quests. That was very early on though, and "stuff" is continually added to these things as time progresses. Haven't been back for a while as I only have room in my life for one of these things at a time, but perhaps some of you might get hooked. legendsofzork.com/

I recently found [http://www.piratesassault.us/?ac=vid&vid=355044718&ref=flink]Pirates Assault[/url][/u]. I haven't actually played it yet, but there doesn't appear to be any kind of client download, which presumably means it's browser-based. With any luck it should be pretty good, since it's run by Aeria Games, the people behind Shaiya.

Dammit. Now we need the sitestaff to retitle the thread to "Yet More BBMMOs".

Having fiddled with Pirates Assault for a little while, it now strikes me as kind of a Caribbean piracy version of Facebook's Battlestations.
Unlike other BBMMOs, including Battlestations, actions are limited by time rather than numbers - a sea raid, for instance, takes a minimum of ten minutes. Also, though the tutorial takes you to a deserted island to bury your treasure, if you try to do so you get a message saying you need a premium account in order to bury treasure, which annoyed me.
