Yeah, it's how I played the games - sadly missed them the first time around.
Speaking of being sad, I had thought the insult swordfighting was a regular part of the games. Only in episode one! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Still, at least a version appears in KoL too ;D

I've always assumed it made a return for the sequels, since it's clearly the best thing ever.

Insult swordfighting (or variant thereof) returns in Curse of Monkey Island and Escape From Monkey Island.

I don't like these two sequels, especially MI4 makes me puke. But I love MI 1 and 2 - these are, besides DM and CSB, my most favourite computer games! Ron Gilbert was a genius.

Gilbert is currently working on a game called DeathSpank, which may (or may not) come out at some point. It's been in Development Hell for five years already.
