Does anyone here play any online games?
I know that Nightraven and I have gotten into the Dungeon and Dragons Online --- she plays either a Paladin named Roszlyn, or a Rogue named Aislinne --- I've been playing a fighter named Rashid, or a sorcerer named Naitachal....
Does anyone else play? If so, we'd be interested in partying with you

I don't play that, but I've been dabbling in some online gaming for the first time recently.

Ok, here's a breakdown of what I'm playing at the moment: Starport: Galactic Empires - This is basically an MMO version of Elite. I've been playing for all of one day, but so far it's both enjoyable and addictive, if a little difficult. A lot of stuff is unexplained in the tutorial, so if anyone wants to play, feel free to ask me for beginners' tips. www.starportgame.com/Talisman Online - Intended to resemble Chinese myth. Easy to play, but quite challenging. One of my favourites so far. www.talismanonline.com/Tales of Pirates - Anything with pirates is worth a try. Initially, the lighthearted cartoony approach put me off, but that's actually turned out to be one of its best features. Easy to dip into, and its reluctance to take itself too seriously makes even grinding for levels less of a headache than in many other games. top.igg.com/Shaiya - More effort in the visual presentation than many free MMOs. Easy to learn, but there are some translation issues (inconsistent monster names, for instance) and the landscape, though well done, is a little too bleak. Overall, an enjoyable game, and probably the one I'm most likely to stick with, particuarly since I've now found a guild to join. shaiya.aeriagames.com/Conquer Online - This was the first one I played, and consequently it has defined my experience of MMORPGs. Everything I play undergoes comparison to Conquer. It's not typical, though; very grind-heavy, and big on PvP. Easy to pick up and put down, but lacks depth. Unlike almost all other MMORPGs, Conquer doesn't really do quests. co.91.com/Voyage Century - Unlike Tales of Pirates, this seems to be a pirate-based MMO that takes itself seriously. I've only just started, but so far it seems like an MMO version of Sid Meier's Pirates. The interface is a bit unwieldy and a lot of things are poorly explained (I still haven't worked out how to grow crops outside the city) but it's too early to form much of a judgement. vc.igg.com/main.php(This is a shot of me wandering around outside Alexandria. I would post a screenshot of action at sea, but I wasn't going to trek all the way back to my ship, hire more crew, buy provisions and cast off, just to get you a pretty picture ) Incidentally, what I said about Spaceport applies to all of these games; if anyone wants to play one of them, I'm happy to offer advice. I'm no expert on any of them, but I can tell you some things I would have liked to know when I started.

What you should do is review these more fully and then post the reviews over at Honest Gamers. You'd be a welcome part of the freelance team.

I hope that you do. We could really use some reviews of the online material, and it's obvious you know your stuff. Hg reviews get sent to the developer and to sites like IGN, so it's a good way to get your name out there.

When the degree workload eases up a little, hopefully sometime this week, I'll have a look at HG and take a stab at reviewing one of the games above. I've written a handful of reviews before, but only for forums, and I've never had much feedback, so I'm not sure how it'll go. We'll see. In the meantime, here's one to avoid: The side-scrolling (yes, side-scrolling) MMORPG La Tale actually sounded promising, and from the hour or so I spent playing it, it was actually quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to run. Despite being only 600MB, it slowed my entire PC quite dramatically. It also froze many, many times - twice before I even got as far as character creation. I only succeeded in actually getting to the game itself once. And it didn't just freeze itself; I had to pull the power on my PC each time. After uninstalling, everything was fine again. Shame. It had potential. latale.ogplanet.com/main.og
