From Matthew Sprange: Well, at long last, we can expect Mongoose to stick to their schedule of one book every 6-8 weeks now that they print them in the US. We do hope however that this one won't have any mistakes in it like the previous two.

My copy arrived today and brace yourself for a shock guys. There's no equipment section, just like in book 4 !

Yeah Balgin, but really check it - I think they are right, for some reason JD has removed equipment for starting characters! After all, he's changed the random number plus 10 gold crowns to just a random number....
I need to check my book four tonight and see if it's the same

I think JD is assuming that those who but these new books are going to be (mostly) returning players who will play the books from the start, having all their equipment, therefore not having the need for starting equipment. It makes sense when you think about it.

The change is intentional and you only get a random number of Gold in Lone Wiolf #4 as well. You are simply not supposed to get all that shiny start equipment....

I think he's created a harder version, where it matters if you take hunting to eat or go a certain route for meals, for example
But yeah, the games aren't balanced or no food/no healing potions, etc, so dunno how those books fare if you have that disadvantage...

Im excited by this, JD has actually thought about all these books and not just "republished" them as they used to be. Now, you really do have to play them as a series and not just as a one off.

and you only get a random number of Gold in Lone Wiolf #4 as well. I remember mentioning that oddity on the mongoose boards a few months back. At least in book 4 you could gain a temporary sword before your first fight. In book 5 you won't need equipment so much but the eqipment selection bit used to actualy let you get a full set of armour after losing it all in book 2. Without it some of those obscene CS encounters (like the darklord at the end of book 5) will be simply, well, obscene. That being said, some of the illustrations look like elements of that battle have been changed a bit .

Well, you can now purchase a chain-mail in Lone Wolf #1 and store it in Lone Wolf #2, and reclaim the stored one in Lone Wolf #3 and onwards. You also have the Padded Waistcoat which gives you a +2 EP. You do not have to fight the Darklord in Lone Wolf #5 when you make a new starting character. You must have a carry-over character with the Sommerswerd to get the option to fight, and even then you can end up not having to fight the Darklord (by not opting to immediately retrieve the Sommerswerd.) The Dhorgaan is not worse than the Helghast in Lone Wolf #1.

Actually, none of the books does. You would think that King Ulnar would make sure that Lone Wolf has enough money to get properly equipped after he has killed Darklord Zagarna. After all, the money which funded the start of the rebuild of the Kai Monastery no doubt came from the King and the workforce were volunteers for a new order Kai.

Naa, book 2 doesn't allow storing items in safekeeping. Actually, none of the books does. In the original editions, book 5 was the first one to do this. Is this included in the Mongoose edition as well?

Yeah Balgin, but really check it - I think they are right, for some reason JD has removed equipment for starting characters! The fact that Mongose included the missing equipment section in their online eratta kind of contradicts your suspicion (although the fact they put up the equipment section for book 6 also indicates they couldn't organise a drinking party in a brewery ).

Erm, is this a case of five books in and still they've not got one right? I know nothing about the difficulties of publishing and the occasional spelling error and little things like that wouldn't bother me, but paragraphs missing and whole sections like the equipment stuff sounds like they're not taking anything like the care and attention over these books that you ought to expect. I know it sounds as though Book 3 is - and will always be - missing that paragraph, but are the current runs of 1 and 2 correct as far as anyone knows? I was thinking of picking those two up to see what I thought - it's an easier decision now that the mega-deal has gone, 'cause it doesn't have to be £300 at once!
