Hey dudes
I need some help from people who know how on line advertising works. Can advertisers pinpoint your location based off of your IP address and target advertisments accordingly?
Does anyone know of any sources on this kind of stuff?
The reason I am asking is that I am writing a bit about globalization theory, which I do not agree with, and part of my argument is that even when we go online, we cannot escape the territorial aspects of our lives and the banal nation forming aspects of it.
Thanks Al

Thanks Al Lands are allocated IP ranges so usually you can determine the nation by looking at the IP. Sometimes you can get down to city level. Primarily, the IP will indicate who handed out the IP address, i.e. the ISP. It then comes down to how the ISP has arranged their IP number. If the ISP is only active in one country then the ISP gives away the nation indirectly. I'm sure there is more info available on the net. I do know there is search databases which you can use to find the ISP for an IP number.
