My reaction to them electing to use D&D as the game engine is pretty mixed, particularly 5th edition. That edition of D&D is likely on the way out in the near future, if events during the past several are anything to judge by, and so anyone starting a game based on it now is headed for quick obsolescence in the industry. The attempts to correlate Joe Dever's past experiences with D&D and AD&D with the Lone Wolf series and setting have also always been overstated.
Nevertheless, I'm not sorry, in general, to learn they're taking a run at another RPG. Fingers crossed that they'll make it significantly past it being a Kai-centric approach! And can make it setting-specific enough to endure even if the game industry undertakes its own shifts where the habitually-perceived "top-of-the-line" is concerned.
