Wow, it's been a while since there was a post in this section of the forum. So I have a question that's been bugging me: Whatever happened to Firestone, the monastery's "senior Kai Master" from Book 19, Wolf's Bane? I don't recall mention of him in the New Order books, but I could have missed it.
By "senior" I guess it could just mean oldest, and not highest in rank. Maybe he hit his limit in attaining the magnakai disciplines. Or he was killed off outside the books. Perhaps he was expelled from the order for providing faulty wheels to the monastery (sorry, couldn't resist! although I think this only happened in North America).
It's interesting how we can't even generate his name in the new order books.

Still four books to be seen, maybe he will crop up then!

My own interpretation is that he left the Order. Maybe he got married or something and then went to live happily everafter.

It wouldn't surprise me if he never managed to be Grand Master. I've always assumed that different Kai Lords have different limits. Black Cat could well be right, though; it's stated (I forget where - early gamebooks, Legends, Companion?) that many come to the Kai for training before leaving and taking up other roles in life.

It's quite possible that he's one of the five Grand Masters.

It's quite possible that you decide to play Firestone in Books 21 on... :-)
That may be one reason that no Kai mentioned in earlier books by name are mentioned in the New Order series. Gamebooks are not necessarily "required" to preserve from potential continuity discrepencies, but I can see an author avoiding them if he does not have a reason otherwise.
That said, the New Order Grandmaster spends the vast portion of his/her time away from the Kai Monastery. So the lack of any reference would have no further explanation beyond that alone.

It's quite possible that you decide to play Firestone in Books 21 on... :-) I doubt it since the NO GM was only 14 at the time of book 18 and Firestone was in charge of the Monastery at that time. Or maybe the guy in charge of the Monastery was indeed only 14 years old...

Stranger things have occurred.
That said, you are likely correct.

Firestone is mentioned again in LW #19 (MS 5080) and is still the "Most senrior of the New order Kai" at that time.
Mentioned in conjunction with calming the mob from Holmgard and sending the four Kai Masters to Tyso.

Wasnt the NO GMs name revealed to be Raven-somethingorother?? I cant remember tbh, but sure I heard it from somewhere. In one article, it was suggested that Black Hawk was the name of the New Order Grand Master, through a series of deductions based on hairstyle and looks. Someone posted a link to that in Rising Sun a long time ago. Yeah, Firestone is not just mentioned as the most senior of the New Order Kai in Book 19, but even Book 20. Which is possible since he has to lead the Kai Monastery in between those books (a gap of one year). I wouldn't mind that he becomes one of the Five Grand Masters, but my guess is that being the acting head / second-in-command and bogged down with operations, he has to forgo some training of his own. And that will have allowed the Five New GMs to surpass him in level of Magnakai skill and attain the rank of GM. Having said that, since there are still 5 more Kai Weapons to be claimed, so there is still a chance for him to get a place as a GM.

Why worry about Firestone? He was a stick in the mud. He wasn't very friendly. I always assumed that you could choose to play him if you wanted in the NO series books 21 onward. Nothing specifically says you can't. I assumed that he was a fill-in character that Dever came up with to provide some background continuity. But you never know what Dever had in the back of his mind when he generated him. Maybe he was a major character from his RPG days, and he wanted to keep him alive in the LW format. Anything is possible from retiring him to a different profession, being a NO GM, or killing him off. Koreth
