It is a shame he passed so young. His creativity will live on, though, in all of us who have enjoyed and remember his work.

Just heard the news on Facebook. Really sad he had to pass away still so young. And it's both hurting and relieving knowing that even in his post operatory recovery he was still working so hard on the last books, doing all he was doing for his fans.

So sad. It's a great loss, and at young age too.
Always, one meeting with the fans and doing what he could for them.
I guess I can console myself that I actually took the time to meet him in person the last 2 years at Goth Con.

Ben Dever just posted a message on his father's Facebook page about the memorial service in which he invites people from around the world to come.

He touched many. Indeed, I know a whole bunch of authors and game designers (RPG and otherwise) who cite him as both a personal inspiration and a gold standard when it came to combining solid format-based game design with great world-craft. He certainly inspired me.

If you can't be at Joe's Memorial Service next Monday, Richard Penwarden, aka Snowshadow, has created a Facebook event that everyone will surely be able to contribute. Hello Kai brothers and sisters. Like many of you I am still reeling at Joe's passing. I was hoping to attend the memorial service on Monday but cannot. I have decided to read Flight from the Dark around this time instead. In fact, it occured to me that others might want to do the same. Those who cannot spare that much time might instead wish to pick a random number to show they are thinking of Joe instead. For this purpose, I have created a Poll on my LW Facebook group. The result is the equipment you discover at the start of Flight from the Dark - it seemed quite appropriate as this is a time of both an end and a beginning, and none of the results are bad! More info on Facebook, here's the links: Poll/Info: www.facebook.com/groups/265757750230464/permalink/780916572047910/Event: www.facebook.com/events/677532452429369/

I've just popped in and find out the sad news (nearly 3 months ago now). I agree with all that you fellows wrote. I can only express my gratitude to him for so many exciting reading hours...and those to come.
