Hey guys As ME3 is now delayed until next year (sigh) I was wondering what choices I should make in ME2? So far I have the following:
Wrex still alive Loyalty for all except Tali (as I revealed her secret to make the Migrant Fleet look for peace with the Geth) - does that mean she will die? The Council died to be replaced with a Human one. Kept the genophage cure work
But the big question is to give Cerberus the Collector base or destroy it? I've heard Cerberus are going to be the enemies in the next ME, but still ...

Since Cerberus will be an enemy, I don't think it will be more dangerous for you if you destroy the base. That's what I did. I doubt that because I destroy the base, it will be impossible for me to beat ME3. Now, about the Council... If you let it died, Humans will take charge of recreating it, and thus taking a seat with the three other races. There, you can either choose Udina or Anderson to be the representative of Earth on the Council. However, if you save the Council (and I might be wrong with that), you still can decide who will be the Human representative on the Council. So either way, Humans are part of the Council after ME1. So let's put this in perspective: ME3 revolves around the fight of the galaxy against the Reapers who just attacked Earth. Shepard goes out to gather an armada of allied races to save Earth. This means that all your decisions in the first two games will have to be to gain trust of these allies, namely: -The Krogan. If Wrex is alive, it's surely going to be easier to ask for their help. But at the same time, aren't they going to be mad about the genophage? -The Qarian. If Tali is pissed off because of you, will she ask the Migrant Fleet to come to your help? Plus, if the Qarian are at peace with the Geth, don't you think they'll prefer to enjoy this peace instead of jumping into another war? -The Asari. It seemed to me that the Asari were the leader of the Council. If you let it died in the first game, will they seek out revenge and let the Human suffer just like they did? So, for the Collector Base, and for the greater good of the galaxy, I thought it was safer to destroy it instead of letting Cerberus put an hand on it and start conquering the galaxy itself. With Cerberus as an enemy in ME3, I think that if you let them use to Collector Base, they could use its technology against you. Also, the Illusive Man has strange eyes, as if they were modified by a machine. Maybe he is working for the Reapers? Maybe he IS a Reaper?

Plus, if the Qarian are at peace with the Geth, don't you think they'll prefer to enjoy this peace instead of jumping into another war? Alternatively, the Quarians and Geth might unite to help Shepard. There's really no telling.

I got all my party members loyal (and got them all alive through the suicide mission). Wrex is obviously still alive! And I chose to save the Council at the cost of human lives - this is the one that might come back to bite me in ME3. Who knows?
I destroyed the base too. Every time someone has tried to use Reaper tech in the story, something has gone wrong. It just seemed too dangerous to keep. Also I hadn't forgetten how much Cerebrus were bar stewards in the first game. Wouldn't trust the Illusive Man as far as I could throw him.

There's so many variables in the first 2 games that it is hard to predict which decision will help you and which will not. Saving the Rachni Queen might be a good idea in ME1, but then maybe the Reapers transformed the whole race into husks.
One thing is sure: if you got into a romance with someone in ME1 and then went for a new relationship in ME2, it will backfire at you in ME3 according to the developpers.

Really? Well I'm trying to keep it going with Liara - she is being a bit of a bitch in the second one so far. More persuassion needed. Otherwise there is Kelly Chambers I guess.
I heard the Illusive Man is already under the Reapers control (same eyes as Saren). And it has occured to me that prolonged exposure to Repare tech indoctrinates you - wonder if that is true for the Collectors?
Bit sad about Tali - don't want her to die, but I can't get her loyalty back and I'm thinking of helping the Geth more so I have some machines to battle the Reapers

Agree BC. I'd be a bit annoyed if the Rachni thing backfired though, seeing as that conversation with the Asari in ME2 was really nice and felt like it justified my decision.
But more generally, I'd be happy for BioWare to mess around with my expectations, provided it was done in a good way, and that every seemingly 'good' decision I made doesn't backfire in an attempt to make the story 'darker and edgier'. That would seriously annoy me.
And agreed about the romance too. In my main save file, I kept my romance from the first story - branched off in other saves though, just to experience some of the new ones.

I still need to finish the suicide mission with everyone still alive. I always get someone randomly blown away near the end..
There was one time I thought I'd managed it, only to be shown a dead body (Mordin's) right at the end.
I need Mordin, his love of Gilbert and Sullivan was the best bit of the whole game....

I know that there are five things that need to be done in order to have your whole crew survive the suicide mission. -Gain loyalty of all of your squadmates -Be sure to have earned the loyalty of all your squadmates before getting Legion (that is, before doing the Reaper IFF mission). After this mission, do the loyalty mission for Legion and then go for the Omega 4 relay. If you do any more missions after the Reaper IFF one, you won't be able to save the majority of the Normandy's crew (however, even if you only do the loyalty mission of Legion, you'll still see someone being transfered to the human Reaper). -Get all the upgrades from your squadmates for the Normandy. -Select the right person for each parts of the suicide mission: Part 1*Vent specialist: Legion *Fire team leader: one of the Cerberus guys Part 2*Barrier specialist: Samara *Fire team leader: one of the Cerberus guys *Escort: I tend to use Zaeed but apparently any loyal squadmate can do the job. -I bring the Cerberus guys with me against the final boss. With all this, my squad survive the final mission. writingwolf: I knew I had seen these eyes somewhere before... The Illusive Man working for the Reapers? I think he is working against them, probably to take their place. Well, we'll see...

BC is right, but you can use others too (as well as the people listed by BC):
Part 1:
Vent Specialist: Tali or Kasumi Fire Team Leader: Garrus
Part 2:
Barrier Specialist: Jack Fire Team Leader: Garrus
Part 3:
Escort: Mordin is the best person to use here. This is because when the team has to 'hold the line', they all have a hidden 'defence rating' to see how well they do. Mordin has the weakest rating.
Anyone can go with you to the final boss - I have heard that if you have any unloyal people, it's best to take them. I wouldn't know though - I've never tried with unloyal people!
-GB
You can also use Garrus as the Fire Team leader

Thanks, chaps. My new list of gaming priorities: 1. Grind the Campaign in Magic 2012 to unlock all cards. I must be playing this too much, I'm #64 on the XBL leaderboard for single-player mode! 2. Finish the Arson cases in L.A. Noire 3. Finish whatever half-done ME2 run I'm on with a full squad. I think my current Shepard is a biotic.

On another note, I think Legion's loyalty mission could have an impact on ME3's potential alliances.

Yeah I'd heard that too Doomy - I think the Geth all join together if you save them, but I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing yet. Either way I'm sure there will be a way to change it. What's the name of the short stumpy guys in suits who keep calling you "Earth-clan" - wonder if they will have a more prominent role?

Those guys are the volus.

I'm disproportionately afraid of the volus, thanks to the first one I met having the voice of Canderous Ordo.
