I'm quite happy to get 2 extra Healing Potions, I half expected to get a useless mana potion. My musket has turned into a Bor Pistol. Does that mean I can wield it and the axe simultaneously? Also, please explain the rules regarding weapon condition.

I'm quite happy to get 2 extra Healing Potions, I half expected to get a useless mana potion. My musket has turned into a Bor Pistol. Does that mean I can wield it and the axe simultaneously? Also, please explain the rules regarding weapon condition. If you roll a 0 on your attack roll, your weapon will take damage. For light weapons damage is taken on a 0 or a 1. There is never any damage taken for ranged weapons. The weapon condition deterioates as follows: Good, Lightly damaged, Damaged, Badly damaged, Nearly broken, and Broken. Broken weapons are useless and are removed from your inventory. It doesn't matter if you hit or not (although normally you will miss on a roll of 0 and 1). There is a cost to swap weapon within a round it doesn't matter which weapon you swap to or swap from, but swapping weapon the active weapon at the start of a round is free. You are allowed to carry four weapons. The game does not permit dual wielding or dual actions of any sort. You can do only one thing at any one time.

So in any given round I can shoot things or attack with my axe, but I won't be able to do both? I'll keep that in mind. I'm looking forward to this.

But to swap the active weapon cost 1 activity. Since you have 7 activity in a round, you could fire the pistol (2), swap weapon(1), and then attack twice (2x2=4) with the axe in 1 round. You can also Fire Pistol (2), Reload (2), Fire Pistol (2) in one round. The last activity would usually be unusable in that case, but you may find ways to use it.

I'd be able to use the last point for movement, right? So if I were standing at a doorway I could fire two rounds into the next room, then move one space away from the door to break line-of-sight.

To break line of sight, you close the door. Side-stepping may work depending on where exactly the creatures is. I think it more likely that you will use it either to advance one step or retreat one step.

All good in the hood. Hmmm, a broadsword...a backup weapon if nothing else. Still, let the games begin!

Game is started... May the best man win...
I've also started an OOC bragging thread. Alas, I cannot take bets this time around since our forums have no money.
As you can see the format differs slightly since last time, and there are a number of new innovations in the game, so even if you are familiar with the Avalar challenge you may be caught off-guard with things not working the same way.
I've also decided to list all your equipment, and will update the lists as you progress through the game.
Doomy and eviltb has a loaded weapon, so you do not need to reload it.
Also, during the generation of start equipment I re-rolled totally unusable things. I think Doomy benefited from this and one more of you as well.
I hope we can complete 3-4 rounds per week and I hope the competition will be at an end at around 10th of May or there will be a breathing pause for a week in the competition at that point.
Any new comers from this point on will start at a Round divisible by 5, and the number is taken from your current Round number.
I will permit a maximum of three rounds spread in posted rounds between the competitors, so do try to keep up with your postings.

Woofy... search rules have changed. You must now state what you want to look more closely at.
Search. Increases Search for the current round by activity. Each point spent increases the chance to spot monsters and characters. Cannot be used when engaged in combat. For each activity spent note 1 section of interest. Choose between: - Location (Traps and Items) - Door (Traps) - Wall (Secret Doors) Locations not selected will have a -3 Penalty to Search checks. Secret Doors may only be present on Walls where there isn’t already a Door.
As an aside... I will cap your chance to Spot enemies to +3 from Search.
Also, I can recommend moving towards a location you want to search and use the Loot action on it, you need to be adjacient.
I will tell you if your search finds a trap before looting.
Also, as an aside. I've also upped the percentage of number of hard to spot (concealed) items. It is now considerably higher than in Avalar.
Also bear in mind that item locations may be trapped and the same applies to closed doors. (1 chance in 6 and I roll when someone first tries the door).
You will get a chance to spot a trap on a location you loot or a door you open, but merely standing in the room will not revael traps. (Unless you spend points on Search on the point.)

Oh, i read this: and though you meant you could assign up to 3 activity to the search, one for each general item of interest in that list, with two special conditions at the end. Now I realise you mean 'activity 1 to search n/w door, activity 1 to search the chest' etc
I'll edit my move, including the walking. But you say looting for two activity includes the search in the cost then?

But you say looting for two activity includes the search in the cost then? Loot location. Costs 2 activity points. You find and take items which have been noticed while searching. Looting also counts as seaching the looted Location. So, if you decide to loot you do indeed get that particular search point for free. You do however not get a +1 to spot creatures for this Search point. (You loot, and the search is directed at the loot point and does not count as general search.) You will automatically make one attempt to find traps on the place of interest when you loot, but nothing prevents you to spend additional serach points to make several attempt to find traps.

So I could get bitten by a snake or spider, for example, that a search of the place on its own would have detected easier?

I decided trapped doors were a more likely evil than finding good stuff, so I put more into a door search - edited my gaming post with new moves
