Out of curiosity, what's the NES manual like? Is it a basic "this is what the buttons do" kind of affair, or does it actually have some of the "fluff"?
I've only played that version via the brilliantly-named emulator NESticle.

I don't have the manual handy and I haven't looked at it in a long time, but from what I remember it contains some of the fluff.

You know, I read that this morning, thought it was a really good review (Pirates) and didn't even realize it was yours! Excellent work!

I think I largely agree with your opinion of Pirates!, though I can't say much about Body Harvest as I've never played it.
Have you played the 2004 (or so) remake of Pirates! (Xbox, PSP, PC) that was also made by Sid Meier? The Xbox version has been cut down a little compared to the PC one.
Basically the same game, but with more stuff. Like ballroom dancing.

I've played it on Xbox and I'm tempted to review it just for comparison with the old Pirates. I think the remake is more accessible and some parts are vastly improved, but I dislike the cartoony aesthetic and the comical attitude. You know, I read that this morning, thought it was a really good review (Pirates) and didn't even realize it was yours! Excellent work! Thanks. That's particularly gratifying coming from a seasoned reviewer such as yourself.

Samildanach won the review of the week this week! His review will be featured permanently on the site under our "featured reviews" section! And all done without bribes or input from me!
Read below:
"Your Champion, and Winner of the Hardest Name to Type Award - SamildanachEmrys with Pirates! (NES)
Arr matey, any landlubber could pen an entertainin' tale aboot Sid Meier's lesser-known creation. But here, ye've spun yer experiences with this game into a narrative the likes of which Davy Jones 'iself would crawl from the murkey depths te lend an ear too. And t'ain't but the saltiest sea dog who's capable of such a thrillin' retelling.
**AWK! Thrillin' retelling! Thrillin' retelling!**
This piece here, t'is long, but without bein' unwieldy, and chock full o' flavour and detail that makes me old heart sing. T'is a story told well, so it's a double ration of rum fer the likes of yeh. Now get back to work!"
Go make an appearance on the forums, Sammy!

Zipp! I just expanded the list of featured reviews and saw that my review of Elite is on there too! When did that happen?!

Especially since his review of Elite is wrong!

Maybe I should write damning reviews of other well-respected games. I could have a long-running series that roasts every Zelda and Final Fantasy game, one at a time. Imagine all the featured reviews I'd get!

;D Yeah, it would be one way to get even more attention than you are already, that's for sure. Looking forward to your 2/10 review of Gladius.
