The hockey tournament starts on 16th February, so we should maybe give ourselves a week to pick teams - shall we close for entries around the 9th or 10th? Let's roll the dice (and hence close the "application") on the 10th, alright? This whole tournament was your idea, Simey, so you should have the honour to do it!

Okay then, entries to close at - very roughly - midnight GMT Wednesday (that's, like, end of Wednesday, not start).

Why do we have to close it so soon? The tourny doesnt actually start for a good while now, so no need to close entries until like the day before it starts, surely??

Because we need time to pick teams! Don't forget that one of us always picks one team and then everyone just sits and waits for another particular player ( the one who is next in order) to pick another one team - and if this player doesn't come, everyone just sits and waits and cannot do anything. We live in different time zones, we have jobs and other things to do, we cannot just sit here and wait. We have to pick 12 teams, so 6 days seems reasonable to me. Actually, I'm a bit afraid we won't make it, but we'll see. (we could set a rule that if a player doesn't pick a team in e.g. 20 hours from the previous one, he switches his order with the next one, so is disadvantaged - but I don't think we need such rules - I hope everything will run smoothly )

To be honest, if everyone PMed me all the teams in their order of preference, I could roll the dice (or ask Doomy to do it 'cause I'm not sure I still have my log-on to Magic Castle thingy ) and work out which teams you'd get if you had your highest preference available at each choice - that way it could be done all at once. Not as much fun though. And all of us taking part so far are regular loggers-on, so we should have time. And it's not looking like we're going to get more than six participants, so if we are still six by end of Wednesday here then we might as well start making choices on Thursday. If any interest is expressed between now and then, we can hold it open longer. It's all cool.

One vote in favour of doing the picking in "real time," so to speak. Just crunching lists is no fun for anyone.
You don't actually need to log on to Invisible Castle unless you need to save your roll for more than 24 hours (I think) but I'd be happy to make and post the roll if it's easier for you.

Why dont we just do "out of a hat" draws, rather than "ooh I want that team" and see what happens if we get our pick. Give all the teams a number, then give all the players a number in the order they signed up at. Then roll 2 dice. The first number is the team, the second the player who gets that team. Any duplications or teams already taken gets a re-roll. Simples!

One vote in favour of doing the picking in real time so to speak. Two votes. This is going to be the only "RPG" part of the game, the most interesting part!

Yeah, especially considering I am about to list everything I know about ice hockey in this post:
EVERYTHING DOOMY KNOWS ABOUT ICE HOCKEY
FACT 1: It is played on ice. FACT 2: It is at least partially based on hockey. No I don't know the rules for that either. FACT 3: Somebody called Wayne Gretzky played it and was famous enough (apparently) to get his own videogame. FACT 4: There is no fact 4.

I can give you a FACT 4: Hartford beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime. Apparently.

Fact #5: England did won the gold medal in ice hockey at the Olympics in 1936.

You mean Great Britain won the gold in 1936.
At least one of the players was Scottish (it says here).

Erm, very busy 'til late tomorrow - and need to go to bed now! - so will try and roll dice, kick things off then. If not, definitely Friday. Though if you wanna roll a dice tomorrow, go ahead! In order, we are: 1 AS, 2 BC, 3 Doomy, 4 ETB, 5 Jan, 6 Simey. And yeah, out of the hat would be alright too, but third vote for choosing ourselves, 'cause it's the only bit where we actually influence events, albeit somewhat randomly.

Rather busy tomorrow also, but ETB has an Invisible Castle account that I'm sure works just as well as mine. I hereby delegate this awesome responsibility of making a single d6 roll, if he's around here in the morning. Otherwise I'll do it myself if I get the chance.
EDIT: Or AS - Invisible Castle is the driving force behind our games here!
