Hmmm, I don't want to sound negative, but it looks more like Heretic 22 or Frightening Fantasy 222 to me. Nevertheless, look here www.dungeon-master.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28196 to read about a much better adaptation of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain! What a coincidence!

Well, how about that. Now all I need is for Dungeon Master's DS port to be completed and I'll have a choice of versions to play on the train.

Well it all depends on your priorities. I usually sleep on the train. I mean I usually start reading something, but fall asleep very fast. I've even learned how to sleep when standing. I even don't need both feet to stand on - I can stand on one foot on the train and sleep. (and this one foot does not have to be necessarily mine, lol) OK, to sum up - wait for BW and he'll think of something. As usually. Nothing is impossible with BW. Believe me. ;D

Sleeping standing on one leg? Are you sure you're not a flamingo? Bonus points for accomplishing such a feat on a moving train.

LOL, obviously you have to lean against something (like a wall) or somebody (like a girl... *smack* "oops, sorry, not my fault, really!"). Or the train is so full of passengers that you are naturally stuck in the crowd and cannot fall when sleeping. OK, sorry for bringing this OT. I just wanted you to notice that Gambit37 is working on a much better (definitely!) adaptation of The Warlock. But obviously, you young unexperienced kids now know only your little DS thingies and other hyper-modern gadgets and don't use old PCs anymore.

A less accurate description of me would be hard to find. I don't have too much old hardware these days due to a lack of space, but I still have a pile of consoles set up and ready to play, the oldest being a 20-year-old Mega Drive (with slightly more recent Mega CD). I have also dedicated one of my hyper-modern PC's hard drives exclusively to retro emulation, with everything from Commodore 16 and Atari 2600 to arcade machines represented. ;D

Could be alright, but it's not quite what I expected. It looks like the resemblance to the book is minimal.
As for the alternative adaptation, I'm not sure what he's going for. In any case, i think Scorpion Swamp should have won the vote.

Doomy: OK, OK, an ownership of an old Atari machine is a good excuse! ;D @se: Gambit intends to adapt all three FF gamebooks listed on that thread, but he wants to start (I hope he has already started) with The Warlock. I hope he'll have enough time.

Ah, I see. In that case I'll keep my eyes peeled for the others. Warlock has never been a favourite FF of mine. Scorpion Swamp is quite interesting, and Island of the Lizard King, while it doesn't do anything dramatically different, is quite enjoyable. There are others I'd like to see more than any of those though.

Then join our Dungeon Mastering community ( www.dungeon-master.com/forum/) and build your own game based on your favourite gamebook in the Return to Chaos engine! It's not that hard! (well, it's not easy, but it's not extremely difficult)

Gambit = matthill on PA btw and is also a LW nut.

Well it all depends on your priorities. I usually sleep on the train. I mean I usually start reading something, but fall asleep very fast. I've even learned how to sleep when standing. I even don't need both feet to stand on - I can stand on one foot on the train and sleep. Ah, someone else who can fall asleep standing up! Everyone I know who sees me do it gets amazed. Sounds like we're both a bit narcoleptic, Jan. (I can fall asleep anywhere and through almost anything). That might be why it's so easy for us to fall asleep standing. The way I do it, I need to be holding onto a subway pole, but my arm has to be fully extended. That way I can lock the arm at the elbow so I can put my weight against my arm. I also lock my knees to remain standing. I have to rest my chin on my chest, because I still haven't figured out a way to keep my head upright while I nap. The trick is to make sure the knees and elbow remain locked while the rest of the body relaxes, and to keep your weight on the arm you're leaning on. The only problem is if the train comes to a sudden stop. I've gone flying more than once.
