Wow, a pretty good show! I was especially amazed by the new song they add to the list, Man with a Machine Gun from FFVIII. Of course, Terra's Theme and One-Winged Angel are still my favourites. Uematsu wasn't there but Arnie Roth, the conductor, explained that it was because he had to finish the soundtrack for FFXIV by the end of the month. We still got a short video from the man that was recored in Germany where he assisted the Square Enix concert (music from various SE games).
Only thing that disappointed me was were I was sitting. Fourth row! But I was the first seat on the left side and I couldn't see half the giant screen and stage because of how the place is made. But that's okay since I was mostly there for the music.
I bought the CD (that I'm currently listening to), the book (I'm surprised by its quality) and the T-shirt (that I plan to give to one of my friend).

Forgot to say that we got the North American premiere of the FFVII's Theme, which was only played once before with a symphonic orchestra back in 2002.
As for the encore, we were lucky to get three songs: Terra's Theme, One-Winged Angel and... the victory fanfare! Okay, this last song had been played already as the second song of the concert, but it was a nice touch by Arnie Roth to repeat it.

Gah, I'm actually becoming really envious now.
I couldn't bring Terra's Theme to mind, so I had to look it up on YouTube. It is a good piece.
You know what I'd love to hear performed orchestrally? The music from Secret of Mana. I downloaded the soundtrack because it contains some of my favourite game music. Hell, I might as well post links to some of my favourites, just in case people are interested:
Scratch that, the guy who has them all up on YouTube seems to have moved them around or something. This morning, those links worked. Now they don't, so I removed them.

Now that I think about it, though, I may be able to get it off Galdbadia... hmmm... How did you like the videos that accompanied the show, BC? I had mixed feelings about them.

I have no idea what Secret of Mana is, but there are some lovely remixes of its music on Overclocked, so I'm guessing the original music was pretty special. I know nothing about Final Fantasy either - except that I have the orchestral score for the film (which I've not seen) - but this idea of game music getting the full symphony orchestra treatmen is very cool! Just like film music, a good deal of it is rather uninventive and dull, but there are some very talented people working in the field also.

As I said, from where I was sitting, I couldn't see half of the giant screen, so my judgement is only a partial one. However, it did provoke some laughs in the audience for certain parts, like the Swing of Chocobo starting with a Chocobo that is "dancing". From what I saw, it was just a nice addition to the show, but not a vital one.

Mana had a very ethnic soundtrack mixed with the occasional rocking guitar riff. Very cool. Of course, it was all in midi, so a lot of the tracks no longer hold up. Into the Thick of It is Still killer, though. Of the Final Fantasy games, FF7 by far has the best music, if only for its versatility and for One Winged Angel. I would say the next best game would be FF6, which had some very dynamic tracks, or FFX, which is just very beautiful sweeping scores. Pretty much every FF game has really good music, but FF7's is the most memorable, even so many years later. You guys should check out the Odin Sphere soundtrack. Really incredible: www.bluelaguna.net/music/odin-sphere-ost-soundtrack/mp3s.phpIf you download off that site, only download one at a time, otherwise you run the risk of being locked out for an hour or so. Another killer soundtrack was the oft-forgotten Secret of Evermore, which was Jeremy Seoule's first composition (now famous for Morrowind and Oblivion).

I find it ironic and frustrating that the concert doesn't appear to be coming to Tokyo...
On a semi-related note, have you seen FFVII: Advent Children? Great film, great music, highly recommended.

Another killer soundtrack was the oft-forgotten Secret of Evermore, which was Jeremy Seoule's first composition (now famous for Morrowind and Oblivion). Hmm, I still have that in my pile of SNES games. I don't remember being struck by the music, but then I wasn't that impressed with the game overall. Into the Thick of It is Still killer, though. That's a beautiful track. I love it. I wonder how much of that is memory though; it evokes the feeling of mixed melancholy and optimism I had when leaving Potos for the first time. I don't know if I'd have the same affection for it if I didn't have those memories. I hope I would, but I'm not sure.

It's considered one of the first soundtracks for a video game to make extensive use of nature sounds and ethnic instrumentation. I think Galbadia hotel has it hold on... There tis! gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/194Some tracks in particular... pirate theme, introduction, secret of evermore, ancient world, ocean theme.

Ok, I checked out the tracks you suggested, and they are impressive. I particularly like Pirate Theme.
