Now, just come back and tell us what it's like three to six months in, after the honeymoon period is over. If you still love it then, then you've got the right job

BOMB ALERT!
Don't worry, it's was a fake one. Someone thought that it would probably be fun to call the police and pretend that there was a bomb in the office of the local MP, who is also the provincial Labor Minister. Well, at least, it gives me something to write for the next edition... ;D

Just got home from another gig in the local pub. We actually sucked tonight (horrible sound), but some people were interested in my guitar for a Trance "Live Act" show (basically it's playing along with a DJ for a "dancing" crowd). Sounds fun. And my fingers are killing me.

And my fingers are killing me. But was the horrible sound your fault or just what you had to put up with from the people and equipment at the pub? I remember doing a gig once where there were four or five bands all doing twenty minutes or so and you could tell that most of them - I'd like to think us included - were actually pretty good, but everything sounded horrendous because the PA that everyone had to go through was rubbish and the sound bloke was apparently hopeless and completely unaware that everything was distorting and everyone's ears were bleeding. Sound engineers really can make or mangle a good band's performance. Unfortunately, they can't make a bad band sound good! ;D The trance thing sounds interesting. I've never understood the appeal of just watching somebody play records, however clever the mixing and whatnot may be, but adding live elements to that kind of performance can really bring it to life. What I've seen of Basement Jaxx on TV suggests that it is possible to make dance music - still largely pre-recorded - into a terrific 'live' performance. Good luck with that - I hope something fun comes of it! Keep us posted!

The show was "sloppy" since it was a last minute booking (the pub was supposed to have a Karaoke night, but it went wrong), and we didn't even had time to tune the guitars or warm up- pretty self explanatory. ;D As for the trance thing, I can tell you it is really FUN to play in a non-song format for a change; I would never, ever put a dance cd on my stereo, but riffing along a "machine beat", a couple of djembê and a didgeridoo is a whole new world of fun for me. And I have to say, the ladies love it.

Been working at a pub. It's a really awesome, very liberal place. When I'm off I go rock climbing and work on the gamebook or my various film projects.

It can really work to have someone playing live instruments alongside a DJ. I heard a guy playing a saxophone alongside Judge Jules once. Bloody fantastic. Good luck with that.

Well, well, where to begin. Ok, Wednesday May 7th, I have quit my job after 4 years in the private security industry. In the same day, I was engaged by a landscaping company as a simple workman being paid 10$/hour(it's was 13,15$ as a security guard). Yesterday, my boss said to me that he want me as a team leader, and today he give his confirmation that I begin next Wednesday. My new wage will be 15$/hour, and more with the occasional increase. I must say its wasn't expected by me, two weeks only after I begun. In another word, while I was in security, I have begun at 12,25$ to finish at 13,15$, so I earn a big ,90$ in 4 years without being a supervisor and now, I earn a 5$ boost in only two weeks and having a new responsability.
THIS IS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!

That's good to know! Congrats! Just one question though: what are you going to do this winter? The landscaping business is not the best one around here during that season... unless the landscaping company also has snowplows.
Anyways, congrats!

Yes, they do snowplowing during the winter. But according to the guys I work with, the last winter was crazy. 30 hours in a row and 4 hours to sleep. LOL!!! All the hours I do over 40 in a week is put in a bank. I can get paid for a month without working. So, if I bank like 250 hours until November, I will receive 7 paycheck without working till Christmas. I can work somewhere else or ask for some employment insurance and come back to school.

Not a bad idea if you want to go back to school. You'll see that the paychecks are much more bigger with a degree (unless you are a journalist... ;D)
