Hello to everyone!
Please, instead of introducing myself (I'll do that later), just let me write you shortly how did I get to this forum.
A day before Christmas, I *was ordered* (*cough*) to clean up my old, very old bookcase. Actually, I hadn't opened this one for a couple of years. And there, behind some poetry, I found two bottles of wine (well, I cannot tell you why had I put it into the bookcase - but it's obvious why had I chosen poetry, because there was no chance of someone (I mean any member of my family) opening it and finding the bottles....).
Bot there, behold! Behind the bottles of wine, there were lying my old LW gamebooks! I'd totally forgotten I'd owned them (according to the wine labels, they had been lying there for about 15 years) - I'd even forgotten there WERE any gamebooks at all, that such things ever existed!
So I was standing there, at the bookcase, and I was thinking about... how beautiful it was when I was a child, lying in my bed, and playing the LW gamebooks... again and again... and then I though... "wouldn't it be wonderful to play it once again?"... but then "wouldn't it be childish?"... But... finally I decided to play one of the books (LW6, which was the first one I bought, as far as I can remember)... and then another... and so on. I couldn't stop - so I spent almost every evening with these gamebooks. And 14 days later, my dear family found the bookcase hadn't been cleaned up, and that I was sitting in the armchair, piles of papers were lying all around, and pencils, and sharpeners...
It's great to be back! Back at the old places... Interestingly, I found I could remember most of the books, most events and villains etc. Actually, all the books (or most of them) are surprisingly distinctive. Suddenly, all the forests and cities and mountains and deserts and battles came back to my mind... great! I love it! Unfortunately, I found I've somehow lost the first 4 books of the Kai series, I must've lent it to someone or so, I don't know... so I'm without my old good rusty (?) Sommerswerd (*cries*).
Then I just tried to google LW, just for the information, if there were any similar people, if this books were still being played, and - wow! So many webpages. And so, coincidentally, I ended up here, in the Tower of Sun. And it's great! I was really surprised by how many people were here and how much was written about all the LW stuff... I'll need months to read it all through, but it's going to be nice because there are many things about the gamebooks I don't know yet or that I've forgotten...
Now, I have to finish the Grand Master Series, and then I'm going to re-play all the books once again, do some explorations... I'm really looking forward to doing it. If only I had the Sommerswerd...
So that's it. I think I won't have much time to come back to this forum in the following couple of days (unfortunately), but I'll be back as soon as possible to continue reading through this tremendous archive of ideas and information.
In the meantime, all the best!
Jan
PS Sorry for my English... still the same, full of mistakes, I know. I hope it's at least comprehensible. And, yes, my disadvantage is I haven't read the books in English, so I'm a bit lost here, for example the abbreviations of the book titles are always small puzzles for me... but I'm learning ;D
PPS I've got one question. Is it possible to find copies of the maps from the LW gamebooks somewhere on the Internet? I found some maps in the Czech edition very bad, some of them almost illegible...
