This message is to the person who earlier gave the advice not to ask a martial arts instructor about blackbelt. Some time ago, back when Tower of the Sun was the original website not the surrogate one I posted a message about asking martial arts instructors about what a student should work on to reach blackbelt. Somebody posted their "two cents" as they called it, and advised against it. Well, I would like a few words with that person, whoever they are.

If I recall, they were arguing that to request the black belt was a sign of impatience and disrespect and meant that, inside, you were not ready.
It wasn't me, though.

Given that this forum is down from pre-crash levels to about ten active posters, the chances of that person still being here are not great.

Of course, you could always just say it out loud anyways, Chris, and maybe he'll hear you.
I'm sure SOME discussion will start.

Congratulations on getting your black belt Chris!
At least I assume that's what happened...

I was not talking about "requesting a black belt, rather what I was talking about was asking the instructor what must be done to get a black belt. After all, it makes sense to ask an instructor what you need to do to meet his standards. Its only sensible to ask an instructor what you need to work on in order to bring yourself up to par.

Whee! Necro! Why? I'm confused...
We pretty much have the same people here now as we did then, with a few returnees.

I just figured out who you are, Izziel. So Wise Fox DID die in Eshnar, then? I missed that!

Just outside Eshnar, attacked by Helghast right before he would have met up with Armadalus and Simey again. That's where the Helghast madness of Beowuuf, Armadalus and Simey started from. Izziel temporarily went by the name of Wize Fox's Talking Coprse, which I made reference to with a delirius opening post in the WW

Izziel if it was you than this is what I want to say. what is wrong about asking an instructor what needs to be done to reach a goal? What is wrong about asking a sensai what standards must be met to achieve a black belt? I am in no way suggesting that a student should demand a black belt or arrogantly say to the sensai why he hasn't yet given the student a black belt, what I am saying is a student should ask the sensai what his standards for blackbelt are, what the student needs to do to meet those standards and how the student can go about meeting those standards. The same way a student in school who wants to get a good grade in a class should talk to the teacher about it.
