I think that no one in the community is really going to care what any future site might be called. I also think that, if some person or some people are going to go to the effort of creating something like what we are talking about here, both the right and the responsibility of naming it belongs to him/her/them. If they want to solicit suggestions or "consensus" from this community whilst in the process, well that is up to them. If they do not, then honestly I don't think any of us are the sort that would flounce away in a huff and go sulk in some dark corner because we were not consulted on a name for the community.

If we keep using a single thread for something as complex as creating a new website we're just asking for trouble. I suggest creating a new subforum in order to group related threads and actually be able to find stuff. Also, I had an amusing suggestion for a site name, but it turns out it's already a porn site. Just as well I checked before posting!

This maybe highlights another need - a need for a new forum if we are goign to start a new community - no one except FA can create any more sub-fora!
I don't think we need a whole new forum, but perhaps a new discussion thread (or two) can be in order

This "forum" is fine for the new site discussion, but yes... we should have a few threads up.

Hey, before we start creating various threads about what should go or not in a new website, perhaps we should first decide if we are really going to create a new site and find which person(s) can make it. That person or group of individuals could then work on a new website, taking feedback from the rest of the community only if they want. Let's first put someone in charge to give one direction to the project because otherwise, if we all suggest things to add or to remove, we will end up with a terrible mess IMO.

Appointing a project leader should be a priority. Does anyone here have experience in website creation and the time to invest in this?

I think if they had they would have stepped forward already! We are looking at a placeholder website updated manually, a large amount of webspace hosted by someone, and perhaps a shift to another forum where we can control the security and forum presentation. In that respect it would take less time and experience, but still would require a few volunteers
While I am pretty much settled in my new flat, I still don't forsee my having the time to help to a great degree before the end of january due to work things and holidays

Well, I'd be happy to help out if I can, but know bugger all about making websites so my contributions would need to be of the "unskilled labour" variety.

Well, simple websites with forums and home pages and submissions and wikis and what not aren't that hard to make. These days you can just pick out a preprogrammed template and adjust it to your liking.

Do we really need to start a new forum? Really? Wouldnt it be easier to just stump up some cash to actually but a full licence from pro-boards? $7 a month will make these boards add free, which Im sure between all of us we can stump up for, and its a damn sight cheaper than getting actual webspace which would run up to the hundreds. Think back to what WH was paying on a quarterly basis with the old site, when compared 7 bucks is nothing. We then just need FA to make more of us proper admins so we can actually do something rather than deleting posts.

These boards are already ad-free - if you use Firefox and Adblock Plus.

Yea but not everyone uses 'fox and AdBlock. If we want to make them so we attract more users (which I guess is the point of all this, no?) then getting rid of pointless ads for everyone is a must.

Well, probably the main problem we have is that we don't have a large user base anymore, and no real way to attract one. Sure, we have fun hanging out together, but how are we going to get NEW members?
