Point well made. Some of the medals were kind of reactionary to a given event, and didn't really represent your standing in the community of TotS at all. If I wanted to, for example, I could throw £40 at the site and earn 3 medals. That's not representative of my deservedness for 'rank' on the site.
Conversely, your comments about Maerin's posts are just as valid an arguement against the current system (making no comment about the quality of your posts - although I think you judge yourself too harshly).
Would a mix of both systems be better? Or worse? Or neither at the end of the day. Change for its own sake rarely fixes anything afterall. That's what we need to decide.
Personally I think a mix of the two would be an improvement, for reasons I think I've stated enough already.

Well, committees may be many things, including ponderous, argumentative and often inconclusive, but when they actually come up with the goods, the goods in question are generally very good!

Just some more thoughts, take a look at the post counts for each lorehall etc - the less LW it is, the higher the post count. Just something that I think should be kept in mind during the discussions

I think atm the board is skewed though. Most of the members are the long term members, and we obviously aren't going to open up all the debates we've already had, so it's more the off topic chatter of us lot just catching up with each other. We don't even have the ongoing d20 games right now to spark lorehall of light discussions
If you like, the WW is booming quite well.

I guess we're saving all the on-topic LW stuff for when book 5 comes out??

Or maybe discussing it at Project Aon, with no need to rehash it here?

Just something that I think should be kept in mind during the discussions What about a different post count system for the lw related halls (more for the ww/forge, etc) and less for the "Solaris" type of threads? What I mean is that character lvl would only improve 0.5 points for each non-lw post, and 1 for the lw related, for a random example. (don't know if this has already been suggested somehow, if yes, then I'm sorry)

I think that is a good idea WFTC

Again, if it's agreed then that is definitely one WH needs to code or find a suitable mod to support Though I will shudder if we see newbies resurrecting old already discussed topics in the LW forums just for post count purposes

For me, the main concern would be making the site an easy and accesible place for new members. Along with this I wonder how neccesary most of the extras of the site were, such as EXP and gold.
If one looks at the trend of the site members, one sees that some things (EXP and gold in particular) had no purpose and were largely ignored by everyone. People didn't post to gain gold, nor did they take earned gold and do anything with it. And as for roleplaying, anyone who wanted to do that eventually drifted into the WW and set their own rules for how it would work.
I am a fan of medals, though, or at least of lists like we have here. It's a nice touch. And ranks are harmless, just a pretty face put on post count levels. Classes are cool. But I would drop gold and EXP unless the stores begin to be (a) more user friendly (buying in bulk would be nice) and (b) have more purpose. I still can't really figure a reason to have EXP at all.
I also think we should focus on making the WW more accesible for new (and hell, even returning) members.

If this thread is drifting off to other ways to improve the site, I would say that the initial home page would need a great deal of work - the fact that thier is a LW community at TOTS is kinda disguised by it. Something like the Kai or BOCS homepages would be best IMHO

The front page did infact show the top 20 topics, if it were not bottom right that might be n better (and very easy to change)

I'm with Al. i found the front page to be information overload, and always had my bookmark jump me to the forum.
If the main page had a bit more aestheticism to it, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Admins can also remove or tidy blocks, it's not just a WH thing so can be dealt with once the site is up and running
I would really like to see all the old fucntion back, but the default skin set, to 'tots lite' that looked better, that removed all the RPG features for newbies yet still restored them
And while the shop could have had more functionality in some respects (discarding or safekeeping items) i think it was up to us board members to make sure these items had a purpose in tournaments, the WW, etc
I would have loved to have seen some baic mechanics for house and retainer upkeep though

I disagree. Totally. I enjoyed my inventory, and I think it was useful in developing my character's background. I also enjoyed looking at other people's inventories - it provided an interesting insight into what other people were doing. -GB
