In Legacy of Vashna there is one part where you go undercover as an acolyte. There is a point in which you have to pass an inspection and it says that if you possess the sommerswerd that you suffer a -3 penalty on the die roll to see if you pass. Well Ive been thinking, with the korlinium scabbard that should negate the penalty because the scabbard would hide the sommerswerd, it would hide its powers. Also certain disciplines such as assimilance and grand huntmastery give a +2 bonus. Since Ive got both disciplines I would think I would get a +4 bonus.

The Scabbard is priceless - if someone noticed that you had the Korlinium scabbard, it would probably raise more suspicion than a naked summerswerd!

But not as much as a naked Summer Glau.

If the Korlinium scabbard raised such suspicion than it wouldnt've been useful in Masters of Darkness where Lone Wolf goes into the heart of darklord territory. And besides, in Masters of Darkness the Korlinium scabbard is described as being a seemingly plain leather swordbelt and scabbard.

You make an interesting point about the Korlinium Scabbard, and I suppose this would cover the power of the Sommerswerd.
Then again, when passing through Cadak's red portal, the Sommerswerd does betray your presence then - perhaps he posses a power that can see through the Scabbard?

when passing through Cadak's red portal, the Sommerswerd does betray your presence then - perhaps he posses a power that can see through the Scabbard? Yeah - the power of convenience to the plot. ;D I think SD's got a good point - assuming the scabbard is one of the items that you are allowed to carry into the GM series (and if not, why not?) then it seems very unlikely that something that carried the Sommerswerd undetected throughout the entire Darklands would be unable to get it through the acolytes' magic sensor. But then if you're looking for a book that makes sense, number 16 is not the one you want - Shamath sees to that.

chris777 makes a good point there. The Korlinum Scabbard looks like a plain scabbard in the first place, but it was described as "He reaches to his waist and unbuckles a seemingly plain leather swordbelt and scabbard. 'I have prepared this scabbard from materials impregnated with korlinium. It will contain and keep hidden the powers of the Sommerswerd,' " www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/12tmod/sect282.htm

I'd argue that it is an oversight by Mr. Dever. If it is allowed to be carried into the GM series, and the description as such seems to be clear that it would significantly mask both the magical nature of it and the golden beauty of the Sommerswerd.
Often the fans are more detail oriented whereas the author is more project oriented to make the publishing deadline. This seems like it *could* be a discussion/erratta topic for Project Aon.
But that's just my opinion. Regards, Koreth

Or maybe just to make it easier for all of us...Cadak has imported a ultra-high tech detection device designed to search for hidden weapons ever since Helgedad was bombed, Mogaruith's Resident Evil plague virus was destroyed and Kaag encountered a "Prison Break".
...Sounds very modern-day? You bet...

The according to "The Game Rules" in Book 16, the Korlinum Scabbard is not among the items you may carry over. Certainly because Joe was aware of the plot problems it would create. (There's generally little story-wise logic to what Special Items you are allowed to carry over to the Grand Master books.)
