I am doing a bit of research for my upcoming RPG campaign and studied the maps of Palmyrion - none of the gamebooks show the entire country. In the Magnamund Companion, I noticed an unnamed city, marked with a yellow dot on the map of Northern Magnamund, west of Orello and south of Vanamor. Now I was wondering what city that is.
I assumed it was on the Palmyrian coast, so I looked up the list of Palmyrian towns in the Gazetteer; however, all of the cities listed could be found on the map in Dawn of the Dragons, and it is none of them. Then I thought it just might be a town in Caron. But the list for that country only named Orello, which it is not, and Mobdor and Nornor, which could be found on the map in The Plaguelord of Ruel, so it is not one of them either.
So... what city is it? Is it named in any book or article I have not read?
Edit: Oh, and while I'm at it: There is another unnamed city located on an island in the Tentarias, just south of Rootstrangle Swamp. That one could of course belong to Lunarlia or Rezovia, but it intrigued me somewhat. It's location suggests it should be quite important, strategically and economically.

People over at PA had worked on the maps of the MC and tried to identified each of the yellow and red dots on these maps. There's a list somewhere on the forums, so I'll try to find it out.

The Gazetter lists the name which appears in the books. (Any books).
They are namely taken from listings on my site which in turn is based on the books, with only a few exceptions.
At first I thought it might be Luna but after checking the position more closely I came to the conclusion that it couldn't be since that city would be close to the border river to Talestria, but the dot on the map is close to the eastern border of Caron.
I don't think any of the maps we have cover that dot and give it a name.

Ok, after asking outspaced, they do have an updated map with the yellow dots identified on page 100 to 103 of their online edition of the MC. However, there's still some dots that are unknown and they include the two you have mentionned...

However, there's still some dots that are unknown and they include the two you have mentionned... Oh dear... Well, thanks for going through all that trouble. Guess that leaves me with the choice of simply ignoring it - and thus take away what is quite possibly the largest seaport of Palmyrion - or make up a name, which feels kind of a sacreligious thing to do with the gameworld... But of course, every DM have to make up things if he wants to play in a world someone else named, even when it comes to one so great in detail as Magnamund. Just wanted to know if there was already a name for it.

Option c), deliberately have no one name it because it is that important, or give it a cute nick name then locals call it And tweak the character'[s mercilessly for not knowing its name, and infact make the characters squirm in situations where locals expect them to know the place's name and will be suspicious or unfriendly unless the players can distract for their lack of knowledge

My feeling is, where it isn't elaborated upon, we are allowed to do with Magnamund what we wish. Thus my fascination with the Cat Creatures.

My feeling is, where it isn't elaborated upon, we are allowed to do with Magnamund what we wish. Thus my fascination with the Cat Creatures. Yeah, that's actually my view too, but I still feel I should do my very best to find out if the information I seek already exists. Otherwise, it might go as for one of my old RPG friends, who I played a campaign in Magnamund with (using a Swedish game system, adapted to the world). Only the first twelve books were ever printed in Swedish, and this was before the Internet (or at least, before the Internet became a matter for ordinary people), so none of us even knew of the existence of books 13 onwards. So, in preparation for an epic adventure, he made an elaborate map of Ruel, stats for the creatures that might be found there, stats and names for important npc:s - the works. And then I went to a gaming store in Stockholm, and was amazed to find the imported English LW collection. I bought one each of the copies they had, and one extra Plaguelords of Ruel to my friend as a birthday gift. He wasn't all that thrilled, really, to find that all his work with describing Ruel had in one stroke been rendered moot... So, in short, I just wanted to know if there was any info on the cities in question before I went and made up a name that would later prove to be non-canon

Well, there are never any guarentees of that. Even if there is no explicit information out there right now (and I concur there is not), there is virtually no way to avoid the possibility that, like your friend, you might someday get handed information that contradicts what you make up. I do not get the impression you are planning on letting that hamper you, but in case it is hovering over much in the back of your mind, I would recommend you let go of that particular fear. Frankly, even if a contradiction is found later, it will have no impact on the fun of your game...just as the "official" version of Ruel likely would not have had any impact on the fun of playing through your friend's work.

That one could of course belong to Lunarlia or Rezovia, but it intrigued me somewhat. It's location suggests it should be quite important, strategically and economically. Hard to guess. It may, in fact, not be occupied permanently by anyone. The Tentarias is very wide, and so islands within its length (even of that size) likely have little more strategic or economic value to any of the nations along that waterway than any "mainland" port would. If the island does not have any way to support itself without, say, food or other necessities from the mainland, its value as a colony island is probably lackluster, at best. The same goes for an island that is so indefensible that no one bothers to settle it. Given a simple choice just between the two nations you mention, Rezovia makes superficially more sense than Lunarlia. However, it honestly could be a holding of virtually any Tenarias nation in the vicinity, even ones not necessarily the geographical closest to the island. Lacking any noteworthy cities on existing maps, there isn't much to hang a guess on. Might just as well be a Kloon vacation island or the original birthplace of the Ogron race (they are noteworthy fisherman and the like). Maerin shrugs.

Don't worry about non-canon. All my stuff on Magnamund will be rendered moot in a short while when the real books 29-32 come out! Just make a good story, and if anyone asks, say Naar must have altered reality on Magnamund for awhile. Either that or you could use Alyss ...

Ooooo.... now there's a darn spiffy idea, Al! Bravo. Just a thought, especially with the location of the island city, it seemed to be a logical option.
