Surprised you didn't think Solomon Kane was all that. It was unapologetically grim and violent, and much more enjoyable than I initially suspected it would be. I'm already hoping to see a sequel set in Africa.
Have you read any of the Howard stories?

I loved the cinematography. Africa was vibrant, and the UK was gloriously grim. I don't know, mabe my expectations were too high, even though I didn't realy know anything about it or the property going in.

Saw Shutter Island last night, having successfully avoiding finding out pretty much anything whatsoever about it. Though I guessed it involved an island. Really liked it. It's a mystery film that kind of becomes more mysterious the more the mystery seems to be revealed. And the coolest thing is that you keep on thinking about it after its finished. My friend and I were instantly discussing it during the credits, and when I got home I was quickly on the e-mail to tell him all the stuff I thought I'd figured out during the drive back. Dunno if I was right about it, but the fact that it made you keep thinking, ' maybe this, maybe that....hey, what about this?' is very cool indeed. Recommended, but take at least half your brain with you.

Saw Prince of Persia on Saturday - went in not expecting too much and rather enjoyed it as a consequence. The script was very clunky, but the cast was strong enough to shine despite that, and although the CGI-heavy climax was pretty tedious, I liked how old-school a lot of it was - it appeared to be real people running, jumping and swinging and having sword fights. Not actually massively spectacular by some standards today, but much more satisfying for not featuring hoards of computer-generated enemies that the heroes have to pretend to fight.
No point going in expecting anything amazing, but rather fun, I thought.

I thought that at the time, then came away feeling less entertained. I think it was truly a popcorn movie. Enjoyable during as long as you have no expectations, but doens't leave much afterwards. I agree with alot of the effects being good and intimate (althogh the slow motion bugged me). I liked the cast.
Can't beleive I missed Shutter Island...need to remember to catch in on DVD.

PoP could have been a lot better - in overall terms there really are a lot of things wrong with it. But as a Hollywood summer blockbuster based on a videogame, the potential - indeed probably a lot of the expectation - was for it to be awful (think Tomb Raider), and I certainly think it's a lot better than that. Maybe that's not saying much, but with a cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley, there's easily enough going for it for two hours worth of entertainment. Cool actually that almost the entire cast seems to be British and that Jake Gyllenhaal seems to have adapted his accent to that. Hmm, not so different from Pirates of the Caribbean, thinking about it, although Johnny Depp seems to do a British accent of one sort or another in nearly every role he plays these days. Shutter Island is well worth seeing - lots intriguing, OTT mystery.

Saw the A-Team with my brothers today. My older brother and I were fans of th original series while my younger brother wasn't born yet when it was on air but all of us were entertained. I read Wikipedia that the A-Team is a story about boys doing boys stuff. And I have to agree. The movie captured the spirit nicely and us laughed, in awe and have a great time over all.
Murdoc was prefect.

Shutter Island is well worth seeing - lots intriguing, OTT mystery. Just saw it with my girlfriend. Even if I guessed pretty early in the movie what exactly was going on, I must say that it was a very good one. Go see it! Go!

Saw Attack the Block yesterday evening. Dunno how wide a release it's getting - especially outside the U.K. - but I have to recommend it. Very fun. Hoodies vs. Aliens. Sharp script, engaging characters, very cool alien design. And just maybe a teeny little bit to think about amongst all the marauding aliens. Really good stuff.

It's good to get an opinion on that. I've seen a trailer for it and I thought it could be either quite good or very bad.

I saw Thor last week - by now, you already know if you like these movies. It has more fantasy elements than the others, though, as Asgard is a major setting. There is also a lot of incidental stuff that may or may not foreshadow characters and events to appear in future Marvel flicks. There are some very good battle scenes as well.

It's the little things that I like about the movie like how Walt Simonson, JMS and Stan Lee made cameos (I only recognize Stan), Donald Blake, bows and Volstagg's chicken affixtion.

Getting more and more drawn to Thor. The Marvel films seem to be a mixed bag, but this one sounds pretty good. Don't know how Kenneth Branagh ended up directing it, but that's certainly an interesting thing about it. It's good to get an opinion on that. I've seen a trailer for it and I thought it could be either quite good or very bad. I'd stick my neck out and say it's definitely not very bad. Can't imagine it going down that well with anyone who actually subscribes to the Daily Mail view of the world, but otherwise it's a very entertaining alien-monsters-attack type film which places much more emphasis on its characters than its aliens, but makes sure the aliens are very cool too.

Thor is great. Well worth a watch. Not as good as the Iron Man films in my opinion, but still very worthwhile.
And the scenes in Asgard are just stunning.

I actually like these more recent Marvel films a lot more than the Spider-Man ones, am I the only one?
