Wow I did not know that about any of the Die Hard films! Intresting stuff.
Im off to see the new HP tonight. Ive never read the books, nor will, so have no expectations and Ive already spoiled it by reading the wikis. Should be fun though ;D

Two films that Ive recently read about and am now chomping at the bit about.
First, is District 9. You may have seen all the viral stuff around, but it looks fantastic. Based on the short Alive in Joburg and directed by the same person. Backed by Peter Jackson. Basically, this guy was supposed to direct the Halo film until it was shelved, so now him and Jackson are doing this. The short on youtube, definitly worth a look below.
The next is 9, again a film based off a short and directed by the same person. This ones backed by Tim Burton. Premise looks amazing, it looks stop motion but is actually CGI. Again original short below.

I'm actually a little curious to read it. Might be interesting. I doubt I can be bothered though, heh. I've read it. It's a good book, though somewhat different to the films. Especially as the hero, as I recall, is in his late fifties. He's visiting his daughter, not his ex-wife.

Did I told you that I saw G.I. Joe last week? Good fun for the summer, but that's pretty much it.
Next on my list is Inglourious Basterds. Hope to see it as early as next week.

Saw three films this week.
District 9 I thought had a great opening but quickly lost its vision during the middle and turned into "just another action flick" only with artistic airs. It was very annoying to watch it crumple and die under its own artistic weight.
Ponyo was a much more consistent film, though you shouldn't go expecting another Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away. This is a Miyazaki children's film in NEARLY every sense of the word. There are some strangely adult themes interspersed throughout, but it's a very innocent happy film, much like Totoro but admittedly not quite as good.
Then I went back and watched an older film, Glengary Glenross, which was genius. David Mammett is a genius.

Glengary Glenross is indeed great. Someone mentioned it recently and made me want to watch it again. You referencing it again seals that.

Saw Inglorious Basterds today. Very good. Maybe not very deep, but it didn't need to be. It was brilliantly shot, written, and performed. Just an all around FUN piece.

No interest?
Pity. Solomon Kane himself, James Purefoy was talking about the film on the BBC's Breakfast programme and I'm very keen to see it.
Ass-kicking with a Cornish accent - awesome!
Opens a week on Friday in the UK.

I did look at the trailer, hadn't heard of the film but it might be alright, mightn't it?

It could be the best adaptation of Howard's work since Conan the Barbarian, which admittedly shouldn't be hard. What's more the reviews I've seen are actually favourable, which is something of a pleasant surprise.

When to see Avatar 3D last Friday. It's a good movie, with cool special effects and the 3D thing is pretty great. I had a few little difficulties at the beginning to see things clearly through my 3D glasses, and I felt that my eyes were working hard to put things in focus, but after a few minutes, it was all well.
As for the story, meh, it's the classic one of the guy working for a big bad corporate entity who will enventually fall in love with the girl of the opposite gang and will then side with them against the big corporate entity. Nothing new on that side. However, the setting is pretty darn spectacular and reminded me somehow of some video games like FFIX.

Haven't read/heard any reviews of solomon kane, and I'm goign to keep it that way and go see it now. I'll throw in the wolfman, even though most of the reviews give it two shrugs up

I saw Solomon Kane on Friday night and enjoyed it tremendously.
The release does seem to be very quiet though, the most publicity I've seen was the previously-discussed appearance by James Purefoy on Breakfast TV.

Hmm, I found it pretty 'meh'. There were a few inspired moments that sometimes were slap bang combined with moments that fell flat to me. The story seemed to have a nice built up at the start that then just seemed to go in odd fits and starts of plot points after that.
Opposed to that, I went out not expecting anything from Wolfman and enjoyed that immensely. I'm not saying I'd watch it again, but anyone expecting something fun in the mold of the older style horror films won't be disappointed.
