We had that back on the original forum: a thread for the new flicks hitting theatre. So, let me start the sequel of that thread.
Tonight, I went to watch Indiana Jones 4.
Not bad, but... I don't know, something is missing. It is the same story than the previous movies: try to find an age-old lost powerful artefact before the bad guys do (ok, Temple of Doom wasn't exactly like that since the bad guys already had the items), the said bad guy is killed not by Indy but because he wanted the artefact so bad it leads him to his doom, there's of course the funny sidekick, and there's a gross/horrific moment. But this time, something was missing... Not enough whip action? Did Indy lost something more than just his youth? Is it because of the (oh, spoiler ahead) aliens? I don't know. It was good, yeah, but it could have been better.
Next movie on my list: The Dark Knight... and maybe also The Love Guru before that (I love Mike Myers, but it is obvious that the story is coming from his mind: the Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup final?!? Don't make me laugh!).
Other news that I have found today:
-After Rambo, Die Hard and Indiana Jones, another film series from the 80s will see a fourth instalment: Beverly Hills Cop is set for a 2010 release. -James McAvoy will play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. Supposedly, a well-informed source said it...

Yeah, I had the same feelign two, and I have watched it twice now. While it's fun to poke fun at Indy, there just seemed to be one swing too many at the start (opr maybe added gopher) which made it feel sillier, and some of the lines didn't click, and overall if you are thinking back on the movie I can't think of anything major to complain about, just something felt very off.
There is also the shock of how old harrison occasionally looks, didn't notice it the secodn time, but did the first - especially when he was in prof outfit in the university.
I'm interested to see the new hulk film, even if the plot seems to be standard fare at least it won't be liek the ang lee version and edward norton is always watchable
Still love the new iron man film - he's cool, he's funny, he's noble when he does his turn yet he gets pot shots taken at his character in physical comedy etc.

Edward Norton is cool though, so I'm hoping for something decent from this new one. As for Indy 4, I want to enjoy the film if I get round to seeing it (though it's been a fair while since Spielberg turned out anything that really engaged me), but as long as the music's good, I'll be happy!

I saw Indy 4 today and agree with the previous posters. I think part of the problem was the plot - the ancient artifact in this film just didn't carry the same cultural resonance as the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail. I think they should have gone with Atlantis as per the computer game instead. There were some good action scenes though.

I've seen Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I thought it was rather slow to start and the whole fridge incident was beyond ridiculous. I don't know what was up with the madness thing at the end either. Other than that, it was a decent film, but the motorbike scenes in New York were just, well, unbelievable (and I don't mean that positively).

Well, I have no idea. I've never been further west than Cardigan Bay! I said New York because the famous "red line on the map" scene soon afterwards had them starting from New York.

How about the fact that the ENTIRE script for Indiana Jones 4 was TERRIBLE, POINTLESS, INANE, and quite a few more words of similar callibur.

I guess you didn't like it at all, isn't it? ;D I remember that they have mentionned that the first version of the script was something called Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men From Mars and that it was Lucas idea to have aliens. They kept a few parts of that original script for the new movie (check Wikipedia). Will they go with a 5th installment? I doubt it, but who knows? Mutt as Dakota Jones or Idaho Jones? The Adventures of Rhode Island Jones... ;D

Zipp, "calibre" is only spelt "calibur" when you're talking about the famous sword The sword made me do it. Been a while since I've read irregular comic. It gets tiring after a time, though he does have some funny ones.

Occasionally, he does less funny strips, that's true, but since he specialises in Lego, appalling puns and science geekery, I've been a constant reader for years!

They kept a few parts of that original script for the new movie (check Wikipedia). Yikes. INDY 4 SPOILERS FOLLOWI wasn't a big fan of the aliens thing - I'm with Doomy on the weightier cultural resonance of parts 1 & 3. Probably part 2 as well if you're better read than what I is. But aliens are sci-fi, not mystical. Personally I really like the mystical, supernatural side of the previous adventures, and the way they are based on real beliefs in real cultures in the world - I don't know what the legends of El Dorado actually are, but I very much doubt that either the natives or the conquistadors ever thought it had anything to do with inter-dimensional, archaeologist aliens! On the basis of the quality of number four, I hope they don't make another one. Just like the Star Wars, Alien and Jaws films, they should've stopped at three and not sullied the series with the inclusion of inferior instalments. I'll be very happy to still think of the ride into the sunset at the end of Crusade as the finale to Indiana Jones. Okay, I was kidding about Jaws.

Again, Simey, I say that Revenge of the Sith is a Great SW movie ;D (to me, it really made up for the let-down that is Ep. I and the "somehow it could be WAY better" Ep. II). Plus, it has the 2nd most fantastic lightsaber battle in the entire Saga (#1 is Vader vs Luke, in ESB ;D ) I would only cut that wimpy "Nooooooo" at the end... I will see Indy's new movie this weekend, hoping it won't be that big of a bomb.

(#1 is Vader vs Luke, in ESB Oooh, heresy! ROTJ has the 'luke getting mad' bit where he jumps out of the shadows and kicks DVadar's butt, then the 'luke really gets mad' bit at the end with the huge choral music in the background where he hacks Vadar's hand off Come on!
