Well, for reasons I can't remember, and I'm not sure I could fathom at the time, I briefly ended up being a sort of go-between between WH and the community that had gathered (on Facebook?) after the crash, and somewhat to my surprise - 'cause I've not had a great deal of direct contact with WH myself - I did manage to get some answers out of him (I'm guessing I employed vasts tracts of diplomatic language in order to procure a one line, computer-speak response that meant nothing to me at all! ;D ). So I suppooooooose that if someone who knows what they're on about can tell me what to ask him, I could give it a try.
That may sound somewhat unreasonable and irrational, but I do get it. Do we, perhaps, do the wrong thing when we decide to not bother him about anything in order not to prompt response No. 1, thereby failing to spark the very necessary response No. 2? ;D

What I think we should try to do is surprise Winterhawk by putting content onto the site so it gets officially opened.
Then when we have the content there approach him with a request to open the site.
I don't mind approaching him with a request to open the site.
BUT I will do so only when there is a working encyclopedia filled with a decent amount of entries. I promised to fill it with entries and I want to have something to show. But the latest five months I've not been sent a single finalized entry. (Has been some attempts made.)
I would like us to show some recent activity on our side in desiring the site reopened.
Just like negative feedback can kill a project, positive feedback and activity can turn things around in a positive way.

In this world, results matter far more than wishful thinking.
In some respects, that might be an arguement in favor of Aguila Saber's point above. But it also argues that, if results do not emerge from effort (or perhaps presently lack thereof), than there is little point in wishing for it or wasting additional effort on it without guarentees that effort's value will be recognized, appreciated AND implemented.
It should not be necessary to beg, cajole or cater to Winterhawk's ego, pride or willfulness. If he cannot make it happen, then it will happen in some other form and fashion without him. This forum is ample enough evidence of that.

It should not be necessary to beg, cajole or cater to Winterhawk's ego, pride or willfulness. Especially true considering that several members of this community clubbed together to pay the hosting costs.

There's no reason why we can't build from bare bones. Get the new forums up and running, then we can add new stuff as we go along. There's no reason why we need a complete new site all at once.
And since we have a lot of resources in other places (beo's hosted RPG material for example), then we should be able to get going quickly.
My suggestion would be to get the new forums up and running ASAP. Since the old TotS was built from a preexisting template, I see no reason why we can't just get this and start again.

"Once we get the glass surely it'd be filled quickly with old good wine" (in a poetic fashion)

My webspace is temporarily down as servers get shifted, but agreed all the RPG materials are there and will be available.
Someone needs to poke WH - the bare bones form was there, ready to use, and the hosting may or may not have been a factor in using it. I sorta did and got no response back.
Otherwise, agreed the els and whistles were nice and got people interested, and were fun to play, but what really made TotS an entity were tings like the west watch, rising sun, contests, and just the interaction of the community. I don't see why the encyclopedia was ever one of the first priorities, and certainly that addition does not need to be added to the forum first before we are 'ready' to have a proper site.

Still blank.
A better sign than having an error message though, means a blank template or something there, and not 'this domain is not registered anymore' or 'there is nothing in the folder you are trying to access'
For all we know the site is down while WH gets rid of the spambot camped there, but without any word it's not good!

There was stuff on it at one point, wasn't there? Like it had been partially rebuilt?

Yeah, the whole thing was there in a beta state ready to be used. Lke I said, I did ask if it was just hosting that was an issue (ie if we started puttign traffic there would it cost anything to WH) that stopped us using it. No answer

Last time I looked at it had the look of a rebuilt frame (and a good looking one) but with nothing in it.

I think quote function aside the forum worked, the encyclopaedia seemed to work, and the front page news obviously worked

Now the towerofthesun webspace is completely gone and doesn't resolve to a webspace
