So, as promised, here are some preliminaries to get those interested started on thinking about, and talking about here, characters and such. I will likely formalize things in the next week or two, but I do want to get the sense for continued interest once you all have a chance to read the conditions.
To summarize:
1. Game will be set, at least to start with, in north-central Magnamund, soon after the “death” of Lone Wolf at Torgar (roughly mid MS-5062, for those wanting a timeline reference for the starting point of the game).
2. I might as well say this up-front, as it is usually the make-or-break issue for player commitment to a given online play-by-post RPG. This play-by-post game will follow the same rules as “A Twist In Time” previously did: mandatory one-post-per-day participation frequency, which has to be posted between GM (me) posts (which I will spread roughly 24 hours apart). I won’t have an artificial enforcement mechanism like Time Flux this time around, but I will have basically the same thing going so far as consequences are concerned. Special considerations will be made for absences if I am notified in advance (one day ahead of time minimum). If someone is absent too much, however, I may need to replace that player. No offense is intended, and I’m not making this particular set of rules to be a jerk. However, a set of players (and their GM) who cannot match commitments with each other pretty much always makes for a poor/uninteresting play-by-post game in practice, whatever the good intentions might be.
3. The themes of the game will likely revolve around providing hope in the hopeless world that the Darklords will spend the next eight years imposing on the world. So there may be a fair amount of “behind enemy lines” sorts of situations.
4. Player character level will start at 8th level. Generally speaking, my preference in characters will be for northern Magnamund nation or Tentarias border nation character backgrounds. Generally speaking, no Kai Lord characters; and probably no Sommerlending characters overall. Sorry. The circumstances of the game I am running severely curtail the possibility, particular as it might apply to characters that would be of obvious service to the King (Knights, Kai, and Brothers of the Crystal Star).
Non-Master rank Kai probably do exist in this timeframe, and there may even be those that have achieved journeyman/warmarn rank by this point in time. However, Lone Wolf received special dispensation from the King in order to remain away from Sommerlund and pursue the quest of Magnakai, and I am ruling that dispensation relatively unique right now. Banedon appeared to have received a similar dispensation during the relatively brief time he was with Lone Wolf during the events of Book 9. If someone comes up with a really, REALLY good idea, I will still consider it, but expect my answer will be no. There are a lot of really interesting nations/backgrounds available in Northern Magnamund (and the north section of Southern Magnamund sharing shores on the Tentarias).
5. As some of you may have been following the discussion in another thread, I do have serious issues with the strong limitations placed on players by the published RPG’s limited classes. Since I do not want that to constrain this game, what I would like to see is people conceptualize out character descriptions and backgrounds. After that, each player and I we will organically build the characters together. If one of the existing LWRPG classes will work (perhaps with some adaptation), fine. If not, we will use some combination of the existing Lone Wolf RPG character classes, the more standard d20 classes (not NPC ones, either from the LWRPG book or elsewhere), and possibly some d20/OGL classes from other games I have access to.
EDIT: Players:
1. Al
2. Eviltb
3. Swiftstrike
4. Doomy
5. Zipp
6. Agrarvyn
7. Dusk
8. Celestia
