I trudge back from the ring, leaving my opponent kicking the dust at his feet. Slumping back onto a bench I lay myself down, replaying the encounter in my mind. The power from the red gem has faded from my body, yet my heart is still pounding hard in my chest. As the victor was announced, there were no cheers or fan-fares. Just staring and mutterings in the crowd. I ignore them all, the fight is what mattered. I lay on my back, eyes fixed on the ceiling, an inane grin spreads across my face and I chuckle to myself. I turn my head, the others must still be in their fights. The wolf-creature and the girl are here. The girl is smiling but it seems slightly forced, the wolf appers to be reassuring her. Shame I will not be seeing her in a more official capacity. I turn my head back and close my eyes to rest. Naar would be pleased....

Beowuuf sighs, but in a way is glad. He had made the correct choice, it seems. The Nad Adez Konkor, whoever he is, is a powerful servant of Naar - not someone to send a raw young knight up against. That the Grand Master of the Order lost is surprising, but this only proves more that the Kai Hunter must be stopped. Beowuuf can only pray to the Magi and Kai their lord that he is matched up with this powerful foe. Beowuuf will end his threat or die in the attempt.
Well done eviltb, but commiserations to BC!
Are you doing a last battle post too or leaving it to Zipp?

"What, I lost? FIXED! THIS THING IS FIXED! I PROTEST! I'LL STOP BROADCASTING THIS EVENT ON MY NETWORKS! I'LL STOP MAKING ANNOUNCEMENT FOR IT IN THE WEST WATCH! ZIPP WON'T BE ON THE FRONT COVER OF THE NEXT ISSUE OF PLAYCAT MAGAZINE! AND I'LL RAISE THE PRICE OF THE REFRESHING, TASTY AND DELICIOUS BORWEISER THAT YOU CAN BUY FROM OUR VENDORS INSIDE THIS STADIUM! AND I... have to go! Man, I'm late for diner. I wonder what's on the menu at the Monastery?"

Twiler scratched his head. "Er, the Kai Lord seems to be making quite the fuss, my lady."
Morgan shrugged. "What did you expect? It's Black Cat. He'll go home, drink some brew, do some Deliverance, fraternize with some young kai lady, and be back on his feet in time for supper."
Evil TB had fought a good fight. Black Cat had taken the majority of the blows, perhaps because he had been distracted by other matters. It was possible this was a sign of his immense power, but Morgan felt strongly that the Dark Kai should not be played with or underestimated. It was true that they had lost the favour of Kai and Ishir, but they had gained the favour of Naar and his various demi gods.
And they had done well at every tournament, no matter their opponent.

"With Evil TB's win, we're down to our last two fights here, and the crowd can't decide which it likes better!"
"Of course, everyone likes a solid match of strength, and that's we've got in the third circle between the giak and the dwarf. They've been fighting like wild beasts! Nothing too mind boggling..."
"... but then, the visceral is appealing, isn't it Ron? Anyways, if it's mind blowing they want, the crowd has only to take a glance at circle four, where THREE opponents are fighting it out!"
"Yes, the sudden appearance of Shadow Crow was quite the surprise, eh Thelor? Something set up by Morgan, I suppose? Or just a late comer?"
"In either case, he's making things difficult for the other two fighters. But at the same time, he seems to have drawn their combined attention. It's more of a match of two versus one than a free for all. I wonder if he'll be able to take that."

Suddenly Morgan, who had been watching Dharn dodge one of Shadowcrow's attacks, turned her head sharply and stared into the ring in which Doomy and the giak were fighting. Twiler saw the movement and a shiver went down his back. The fight was about to end.

Doomy wakes up in the healers' tent with a splitting headache. "Ugh, I haven't felt this bad since the last time we spilled a horn o' boompowder in the brew", the dwarf groans at the young female healer gazing concernedly down at him. "I won, right?" he asks. Reading the expression on the girl's face, the dwarven gunner momentarily flushes in embarrassment, but fortunately his beard hides most of the redness. Beaten by a Giak? he thinks. Someone must have spiked my brew right enough! The dwarf leaps up from his stretcher - and almost collapses in a heap. Snatching the crutch offered by the healer, the even-grumpier-than-usual dwarf limps out of the tent in search of a good drink or ten.

eviltb watched from the sidelines as the dwarf limped off towards the refreshments tent. The giak had by now shuffled back to the bleachers. If anything, eviltb could respect the fact the giak was - like himself - only interested in the fight. He turned his attention to the 3-way fight still going on. He did not care who would win; the pirate, the peasant or the other Kai. He had already defeated the GrandMaster of the Kai Order, what need or pleasure would he have in defeating a lesser Kai... Then there was the wolf, still fawning over the young girl. If she was his lesser, he would leave her to think over her defeat and focus on his next fight!
eviltbs gazed turned to the podium, where Morgan and her retinue sat. A dastardly tricked she had pulled. He wondered if any others had noticed it. He wondered still, what the consequences would be if she decided to pull such a trick on himself. He smirked as he played out the scenario in his head. Maybe later, when he was victorious. This day was not over. There was still a long way to go....

"We're back from commercial break and about to witness the ending of the three way fight, the last fight of the first round!"
"What time is it, Thelor? It feels like it's been weeks since this tournament started!"
"What are you talking about, Ron? It's only been thirty minutes since the fights began!"

Post by Bewildered Badger on May 29, 2008 18:15:19 GMT -5
Bewildered Badger awoke, and immediately wished he hadn't. He hadn't felt this much pain since a lucky cannon volley from a Lakuri pirate had sent half a foremast crashing down on him. Everything hurt, though at the moment it was his nose demanding special attention. It seemed to be almost entirely flat, though to make up for that it did seem to be at least twice as wide as usual. The looks on the faces of those of his crew who'd turned up said it all. He'd lost. "That was no ordinary peasant" he said, although with his nose in it's current state it came out as "Gat wah no orgainry pezznt". Saemury, his first officer, came over from discussion with one of the healers. "Well, I see you're still alive then." she said, her tone suggesting mild disapproval of this behaviour, and that he should stop it at once. She clicked her fingers imperiously at the healer, who scurried over with a small box. "Ground Laumspur," the healer explained, "inhale it like snuff and it will do your nose a power of good." Perhaps he was being paranoid, but after three assassination attempts and several years on the run Badger wasn't going to stick anything up his nose on trust. He beckoned Doctor Nimos, his ship's Surgeon, over to inspect it. After that learned man had given his approval Badger took a couple of sniffs, the pain fading to almost nothing in but a moment. A potion of Laumspur, again checked by Nimos, reduced the ache in his body to a more manageable level. Thanking the healer eloquently, and treating her to a dashing smile (which earned him a pretty blush from the healer, and a dark scowl from Saemury) he swung his legs from the bed and pulled on his frock coat. "Hmmm, this'll need a bit of attention too." he said, eying up the holes and blood stains. Getting to his feet, he made his way painfully to the exit. "Gather round, lads and lasses! Here's the plan. First we repair to the hospitality tents for drink, and food, and drink. We may yet find the rest of the crew therein. Then, watch the rest of the fights. Should make for an entertaining day. I 'specially want to see how that Dharn goes on. If he wins, then I can honestly say I was beaten by the best fighter at the event, and there is no shame in that. If he looses, then I can enjoy watching him get smashed into a bloody pulp. Either way, I'm happy. "By the way, lads and lasses, how goes the unnoticed requisition of landlubber's property?" Without a word the crew huddled around to prevent anyone seeing what happened next. Five of their number, unassuming of appearance, moved closer to their Captain. Each was skilled in the arts of prestidigitation, and in turn they showed the many items of jewelry that they had 'acquired' from unsuspecting members of the crowd. Badger nodded slowly. Whilst this wouldn't be the most profitable caper he'd lead his crew on, they'd not done too badly out of it. And the day was not yet over...

"Round 2 looks to be even better than round 1, Thelor!"
"Certainly it's easier to keep an eye on two fights rather than four, Ron. But I think you're right. The fighters of this round are showing us that they are worthy of being in this tournament. The fights going on in the rings right now are vicious!"
"Especially the one between Beowuuf and Evil Tuberculosis! We've seen Beowuuf's wolf form before, but never in such a visceral display of power."
"And the Dark Kai is no slouch either! Did you see that move where he sucked the life out of Beowuuf?"
"Meanwhile, in the other circle, it's a fight of the underdogd, a commoner versus a giak."
"And yet these are powerful fighters, Ron. Already they've defeated two of Magnamund's hardened warriors, and neither is giving an inch in their own fight!"

"And yet these are powerful fighters, Ron. Already they've defeated two of Magnamund's hardened warriors, and neither is giving an inch in their own fight!" The Badger snorted angrily as he heard this, and immediately wished he hadn't, as it caused a great deal of pain in his much abused nose. Unless he was very much mistaken the Giak had defeated a Dwarf to get this far, whilst Dharn had bested both himself and the Kai Lord Shadow Crow. That made three opponents. Clearly, Badger thought, that commentator was an imbecile. Raising his spyglass he peered at the commentators box. If the fool had anything of value on him he would be relived of it by the end of the day. If not, then Thelor would soon be getting a visit from Gan the cabin boy's pet monkey, with it's sharp little claws and teeth...

But now the question is, which of the three fighters was not a hardened warrior ^_^ Or was it just a typo? You decide.
In any case, I am still here, just decided to hold off on the grading until both fights were done (and that gives me time to finish MGS4 ^_^)

Sarra had left the tournament for some deserved rest. Some time later she returned, to see that the fights were still going on!
