This thread is for all spectators and anyone who isn't currently engaged in a fight. Remember, it's spectators that make these tournaments golden, so please don't hesitate to throw your character's persona into the stands.
"Another year, another fighting tournament. One might think that the world would tire of the things. But there you have it, folks. Those of you who aren't here to see this with us are really missing out. I've heard people have come from as far as Telchoi to see this tournament. Never have so many cultures been mixed in one place. And the stadium! Why don't you give them a description of this stadium, Ron?"
"Well, Thelor, it's quite, er... round."
"A brilliant description. Yes... it is indeed round. But that's just the main bleachers and general seating. In the center of this have been erected five smaller circles. It's within those circles that the fighters will be doing their thing. And that's where the big money ticket holders are going to be standing!"
"Standing?"
"Yeah, Ron, it's standing only. That's so you can move around and watch the other fights in the other circles. Of course, that's assuming you'll be able to pull yourself away from even a single moment of any of the fights."
"You mean they'll be rivetting?"
"Yes, Ron. That's exactly what I mean."
"You know, Thelor... I don't get it. What's the point of having multiple fights going on? How is anyone supposed to see all the action?"
"It's a new age for Magnamund, Ron, a new age. The whole point is you CAN'T see all the action in one go. No, folks, even those of you with the quickest of eyes will not be able to catch all the moments of these fantastic displays of prowress!"
"What is one to do, Thelor?"
"Why, buy the replay globes after each round! That's right folks, thanks to those ingenious Brothers of the Crystal Star, it is now possible to magically imprint a moment onto a crystal and replay it at your leisure! It's the only way to not miss a moment of the excitement! These globes will be available in the lobby after each round. And with the collapse of the stock market recently, they're a bargain at 5,000 crowns a globe!"
"A note from the Brotherhood: they are not responsible for any explosions caused while using this experimental globes. People who have back problems or are pregnant should not use the globes."
* * *
The ten fighters sat on benches in a room inside the stadium. The roar of the crowd and the echoing voices of the two thieves Ron and Thelor were just loud enough to send shivers of anticipation down the spines of even the most stoic of them all. There was no helping it. The air was electric with excitement, the excitment of Magnamund.
The fighters were waiting for the arrival of Morgan, the alleged host of the tournament. They'd been told by a jittery young man in Yellow Robes that she had some last minute instructions for all of them, as well as the list of who would be fighting who.
Fighters, feel free to interact with each other. Tommorrow night I'll post again with the match list and some additional rules.

I look around the room at my other competitors. Apparently this is the best that Magnamund could come up with...my master was right, this would be an easy victory. I am disheartened to see a lack of representation for the forces of Naar, just myself and the smelly Giak. I burn with hatred at the small gathering of Kai sat on one bench, their very presence feeds my desire to win this tournament for the glory of the Dark God. I notice the wolf-creature is here. I catch his wandering gaze and a smile creeps across my lips as I recall my masters com description of him.. The small girl he is sat with seems a little out of place in such a tournament, still all would fall at my feet eventually. I wait now for my the announcement of first opponent....

Beowuuf shifts uneasily as he feels the dead yet hungry eyes of the Nad Adez Konkor roam. He feels defensive as they come near, not the wolf himself, but his companion. Though a gifted warrior of Valos college, Sarra is still young in terms of age and ranking. The older commander, even though he can no longer claim that lofty position, feels responsible for her wellbeing as if she were a Vakeros directly under his command.
I have a funny feeling this contest is set before the others... or perhaps only the avalar and casiorn contests...

Doomy regards the assembled combatants and calmly ponders who will be first to face his axe. Many seem strange to him, such as the warped Kai and the wolf-knight. He wonders how well they can fight, and notes that most carry themselves with the ease and confidence of seasoned warriors. No matter, he would be ready.

Sarra catches the condescending eye of the man in dark robes. She glares back contemptuously before turning back to eye the stage. The young Vakeros knew that she had several important assets coming into this competition. First, many would underestimate her because of her small size. Sarra knew she could make up for it in speed and agility.
Second...well... She smiled. A young woman could always be distracting...

OOC: To answer your question, Wuufy, this tournament is set immediately after the Eshnar situation. About two weeks after, to be exact.
I don't know when the Avalar and Cassiorn challenges occur, but I assume that you're right, and they haven't occured yet.

In that case, to my mind before the KDJT too, though others may disagree

Footsteps echoed down the corridor. The heads of the fighters turned as one to appraise the newcomer. The young man in the robes was back, carrying a large box, and with him was another robed figure. The hood was drawn up over the face, but long black hair fell from under it, so black it was almost a midnight blue. Long slender fingers, pale as alabastor, reached wide to envelop them all in a general greeting.
“Welcome,” said a clear beautiful voice. “I am Morgan.”
The fighters gave little reaction to her introduction, and there was an expectant silence that soon turned uncomfortable. Morgan lowered her arms and turned to her assistant.
“This is Twiler. I hope he has given you everything you need to be comfortable and ready for the fight ahead?”
Again an awkward silence. Morgan didn’t let it sit so long this time but got down to business.
“There are some final instructions that I need to go over with all of you. First of all, though you are allowed to use weapons in these fights, you must be aware that they are not fights to the death. Killing is strictly forbidden in the arena. You will win by forcing your opponent to submit or by knocking them out. We are in Sommerlund, and the King’s rule comes down heavily upon murderers, regardless of their past deeds or prowress.”
Here the face lifted some, and under the shadows of the hood bright green eyes seemed to flash, as if daring them to break the King’s rule. Evil TB swore he caught the eyes hold for a moment in his direction.
“However, I understand that with the allowance of weapons and the use of your powers, accidents can hardly be avoided. Do not fear. We have gathered the best healers of the Brotherhood of the Crystal Star and the Dessi, and they are all on hand. Even death will have a hard time getting past their stern watch.”
Ruling: as per the request of the participants, this tournament will be treated somewhat more realistically than the others. I do not want to limit the creativity of the writers. Just write as fits your character. Remember that realisism is a comparitive value. This is a fantasy setting, after all, and we are playing characters that have super human abilities. At the same time, try to respect that setting and the limitations of your character.
One rule that cannot be broken is that your posts cannot describe fatal blows or the loss of limbs (unless they are your own). Blades and abilities can connect, blood can be shed, and fighters may come out of this tournament scarred for life. Depending on your character, you may even try to slip in a fatal blow into one of your posts, but if Morgan catches you, the consequences will be dire.
Morgan motioned to Twiler, who set down the box and opened it. Inside were ten bracelets endowed with small colored gems. Each string had five gems: green, red, blue, yellow, and purple. Morgan handed a bracelet to each fighter.
“These gems are more than mere decoration. In honor of the tournament, the gods themselves have seen fit to allow these to come into my possesion. Each of the stones on these bracelets is filled with a magical power that can aid you in the tournament, allowing you to break the boundaries of your normal abilities to gain, quite literaly, the power of gods.”
Seeing the greedy eyes of some of the fighters, Morgan let out a derisive laugh.
“Sorry to dissapoint you, but the gems grant only temporary power, and once used, are lost. You can keep the bracelets and any gems you don’t use in the tournament. Of course, a better choice might be to use their power to the fullest. For the winner of the tournament will recieve one of the five stones these were carved out of. It is an object of immense power. I’m sure any one of you will find use for it in your various, ah, professions.
“The use of the stones is simple, and I’ll go over that now.”
As explained, each of you has five gems. You can use them whenever you wish during the tournament, but never two in one post. Also, once used, a gem is lost for the rest of the tournament.
As stated, the gems allow you to go beyond the normal bounds of realism that have been set for this tournament FOR A SINGLE POST. In game terms, what this means is that, when used, you are allowed to increase the sentence maximum of that post from five to seven. You also get to increase your style word maximum by two for that post (so if you have the speed style and use a stone, you get to write 7 sentences and a maximum of 8 style words). After the post, these values return to normal.
Each stone is activated by a special phrase that has to be in your post. The attack you make in that post must be centered around the power of the gem you activated. The special power lasts for a single post. These things are given below:
Blue- Unleashes magical potential inherent in all the denizens of Magnamund. Magic users activating the stone will find themselves able to briefly cast magics of unheard of power, while those with psychic abilities will find they can dominate the minds of others. A mind blast using the stone’s power could very well prove fatal to all but the most hardened warriors. Even someone without any magical aptitude will find themselves suddenly able to cast spells as if they were a Grandmaster. Activating phrase: “You rip the blue stone off the bracelet and crush it in your hand, feeling it’s energies flow into you.”
Red gem- Removes physical limitations. Fighters activating the red gem will find themselves able to jump fifty feet in the air, move blindingly fast, punch holes through steel, lift a thousand pounds... classic superhuman stuff. But no x-ray vision. Activating phrase: “You grip the red stone tightly and speak the power word, your hand feeling like it’s fire.”
Green gem- Imbues their weapon with the power of the gods. The weapon changes based on the fighter. Some will their quarterstaff suddenly able to strike with the power of thunder and lightning. Others will find their sword leaves their hand, suddenly sentient, and tears into the enemy. Even those who use their hands to fight will experience effects, such as the growing of claws or multiple arms, or even the ability to burn an opponent with a single touch. There’s no telling what will happen. Activating phrase: “You rip the green stone off the bracelet and hold it to your weapon until it dissolves.”
Yellow gem- Allows the user to briefly alter their appearance, metamorphing into another more powerful form, which they can use to devastate opponents. One might turn into something monstrous, something to rival the Darklords. Or they may become a scion that radiates pure power. Activating phrase: “Holding the yellow stone up to your head, you close your eyes and concentrate until you feel your body begin to ripple and shift.”
Purple gem- Calls down the wrath of the heavens to strike your opponent. The essence of the gods themselves are tied to the purple stones. Using them calls for a direct interference of the gods in the tournament. Needless to say, the results are impressive. Activating phrase: “you hold the purple stone above your head and call out the power word loudly, feeling immense power emanating from the stone.”
Note that the activation phrases do not have to be posted word for word. You could be replaced by “I” or “Beowuuf,” for instance. It’s the action that’s important. Furthermore, they do not count towards the sentence limitations.
Finished with her explanation, Morgan stopped briefly to catch her breath.
“I’ve given you something to help your fighting,” she soon continued. “But there may be things that hinder it. The gods can be as cruel as they can be generous. And the arenas may hold some surprises.”
Just so you know, I may occasionally step in and make a post of my own in the middle of a fight. This is completely arbitrary. No one will recieve points from this post, but it may alter the situation of fighters. For instance, someone’s weapon may break, or the arena itself may shift and change.
“That’s mostly everything. The fights will begin shortly. My last piece of advice to you is to stay flexible. Remember that even a mountain will eventually be eroded by time, and yet the winds will remain forever. Things which are resistant to changing situations will find themselves forced out of existence.”
Just a quick reminder here. As far as the style words and phrases are concerned, you do not have to use the given tense of words. For instance, if the speed style has the word “jab” in it, it is okay to write the word as “jabbed” or “jabbing.”
“Good luck to you all.”
With that, Morgan continued past the fighters to the outside of the arena. Twiler stepped back from one of the walls and indicated a sheet of paper he’d hung there.
“These are the match ups for the first round. There will be five circles. When the gong sounds for the first fight, you are to proceed to your circle and stand at opposite ends from your opponent. The lady Morgan will indicate when the fight is to begin. Good luck.”
Either tommorrow or Wednesday I will make seperate threads for each ring. Once those rings are up, you can begin your fights. It doesn’t matter who makes the first post.
You’ll need to choose a style before each round. At the beginning of the next round, new lists will be posted and you may change your style if you choose. The styles for this round are as follows:
SPEED STYLE 15 words low points, low danger Every post, a minimum of 3 words and a maximum of 6 words from the list have to be used. Jab Strike Punch Trip Skip Flip Spin Flick Twitch Tip Jump Run Step Turn Slap
POWER STYLE 8 words high points, high risk Every post, a minimum of 1 word and a maximum of 2 words from the list have to be used. Drive Force Tear Rip Slice Throw Pummel Decimate
TRICKSTER STYLE 6 words, 5 phrases variable points, variable danger Only 1 word can be used each post, but the phrases have no limitations (except that they must make sense to be used) tempt taunt block laugh feel love Phrases will be PMed to one who chooses the trickster style.
The match ups are as follows: Circle 1: Evil TB vs Black Cat Circle 2: Doomy vs Shadowcrow Circle 3: Okak Dez Naj vs Wise Fox Circle 4: Beowuuf vs Sara Circle 5: Bewildered Badger vs Dharn
If you have any questions, please post them in the rules thread. The new rules made here will be added to that thread shortly.

Sarra smiled softly to herself from fighter's corner. She glanced over at the Vakeros Commander. This would be a tough fight to be sure, but it was also the best chance she'd ever had at proving herself to her superiors.
Beowuuf caught her eye and Sarra winked, "don't go easy on me wolfie!"

Beowuuf smiles back, aware that he is in both a fortunate and unfortunate position. Fortunate, he can protect his charge and ensure she is either capable of fighting in this tournament or blocked from going further.
Unfortunately, if he wins he looks like a bully, and if he loses he will need to request some extra time at the end to search for his dignity.
Beowuuf winks back and smiles, smiling to himself also. There is no shame in being bested by a bright student, especially not of Valos. Beowuuf once thought of joining Valos before Daernath entrapped him. His son Sahmas is of Valos, and even barely trained had caught Beowuuf once or twice with his skill. It will be an interesting match, hopefully educational for them both.
Edit: Weird formatting of the above post! It's like saying Beetlejuice three times

"And that's a go, folks! Morgan has just announced the beginning of the first fight!"
"So seems like she's going to stagger them after all, eh Thelor?"
"Well it certainly has added to the excitment of the crowd! They are ready to see some action! Why don't you tell em who is up first, Ron?"
"Well, Thelor, the two fighters taking up positions in circle 1 (that's the center circle, ladies and gentlemen) are, I believe, both of them Vakeros. Though we can't be sure about the furry one."
"The furry one, folks, is Beowuuf. You might remember him from Lady Hazelae's tournament about four months ago (anyone what happened to the Lady, by the way?) where he demonstrated extreme prowress."
"Didn't he almost tear the face off of one of his opponents?"
"I believe he did, which for me at least brings back uncomfortable memories of Cloe."
"Who?"
"We've been over this before, let's not start it again. Rumour has it that Beowuuf is somehow connected to the recently formed Knights Guild, but I doubt if it's anything but a rumour. Anyways, time will show us the truth on that one."
"More importantly, time will soon show us just how good a fighter this beast creature is! Let's hear it for Beowuuf!"
"Crowd support's a little thin today I notice. I think people have taken offense at the way the beast creature carries himself. Certainly they expect him to be more... well, bestial. There's a lot of bad blood between the humans and the beast creatures these days, and I for one can't say I see any fault in that."
"On the other side, this Sara that Beowuuf will be fighting is a newcomer and not yet known to the crowd. I myself don't know much about her. She's kinda cute."
"It will be interesting to see how she fights. And I wouldn't worry about the crowds. I think once the first charge is made, they'll come around no matter who is fighting. And I think they'll be surprised. If it's true that both fighters are Vakeros... well, certainly I think it's going to be one hell of a fight. And now to tell you about the amazing selection of good on sale at the..."
"Hold on a minute Thelor... something just came in. Ah yes! Morgan has released the information on this round's power word! For those of you who don't know, the power word, if used, will gain the fighter a ton of points! Isn't that exciting? The hint for this round's power word is "A Furry Creature."
"Er... did you just break the fourth wall, Ron? You'll have to show me how you do that some time."

Later in the dressing room, Beowuuf still can't work out if tripping was the most brilliant or the most stupid thing he has ever done in a tournament fight. Certainly if Beowuuf were in Sarra's place, and given the friendly nature of the competition between the two Vakeros, seeing his opponent stab himself after tripping would certainly have put a halt to any well thought out offensive plans Beowuuf would have formed. Had it had the same effect on Sarra, or had luck simply played the part that luck always did in matches such as this...

"Oh! A nasty opening for the Beast Creature Beowuuf!"
"There's been blood spilled earlier than expected... and certainly not in the way it was expected! How's the crowd's reaction, Ron?"
"They seem to be jeering, making fun of the beast creature. But I think that goes along with what they wanted to be able to do. They don't want to have to respect what they don't understand. This is probably playing in perfectly with the desires of much of the crowd."
"Uncharacteristically astute of you, Ron. But as much as I'm with the crowd where Beast Creatures are concerned, I still think this Beowuuf's got many tricks up his sleeve that could leave us respecting him yet."
