Saw the new Star Wars movie last night. I went in not really reading any background material or researching it much. It was good, but not great. I guess I got troubled by the multiple gaping plot holes that JJ Abrams movies tend to have. It is one thing for Star Trek, another for Star Wars. The movie met my expectations, which is to say that it was entertaining, but also had some areas of disappointment for me.
Oh well, as long as the rest of the Lone Wolf books get published, all will be well.

I enjoyed the film too, and loved the new cast. I think the two axis that might be offputting would the homage factor and the humour factor. I loved the humour throughout but it might at times seem not SW like or goofy to some.
The homage factor I think will probably be a personal taste thing. Personally I though the plot suffered alot from being far too like rehashed previous ideas, and so many thing either didn't register or didn't have the emotional impact because they didn't seem have time to be hinted at / developed.
Whereas A New Hope had gaps in history but they seemed the be alluring and had hints, it felt like TFA just had things not explained. I hope the next few films fill the gap and I am looking forward to them, but it seems odd to hope that the next films will make me like the plot of the first film better.
Overall really enjoyed it, but seen it twice now and still can't shake the feeling of just not jiving with the plot. But I'd still rate it 7/10 because as a standalone film it's fun and good, and as a Star Wars film it's got many nods to the fans while still forwarding the story.
