Oh I know it is deliberate, but it is an interesting aspect of the LW action chart - you could not use it player vs player Well, I'm sure you actually could with a little tweaking, though I'm not sure why you would want to.

Do you have my Gamebook Guide, Zipp? No, I do not. I've written gamebooks before, if that's what it concerns, but I'm always open to other ideas and interpretations.

I happen to find LW's Battle System absolutely perfect for a gamebook- simple (but not stupid) and unpredictable enough to keep you on your toes, even at "highest play" (GM series). There's problems with some characters' stats but that is another matter, I think.

I agree with an earlier comment that the Lone Wolf combat system is perfectly good for routine battles: simple, but with a little more depth and variation than the standard Fighting Fantasy-style dice rolling affair. As has been said, a more complex system might result in the combat eclipsing the other elements of the books. Having said that, I can see a more in-depth system being used for major battles, like Haakon or the Chaos Master - the system used in Seas of Blood (or something like that; a pirate-based FF book) would probably work well, with the reader turning to different sections when making different attacks. On the other hand, this would result in a considerable consumption of paragraphs that could otherwise have been put to a different (arguably better) use, and as someone else said, a system like this would struggle to take account of weapon/equipment differences.
The only gamebooks I've seen that have a more involved, less number-based combat system are Way of the Tiger. Something like that might work for Lone Wolf, but again, the variety of weapons and equipment in Lone Wolf, compared to Way of the Tiger, might cause problems.

Hello everybody - I am new to this Forum , My Name is MANTIZ ; ( I am in fact MANTIZ LORD , Ruler of the Mantiz creatures that inhabit AZANAM in Southern Shadakine Region )
Could I help out ? - ( Since I have had previous experience in game designing )
LW Battle System - You get an 100 points allocated in your choice , BUT limited to : MAX 30 , MIN 10 . for each 1 Characteristic. ( There are 5 Characteristics ) ALSO for any Characteristics Base Points can be of course Increased by special Items. (3 - In COMBAT Characteristics ) 1 # ATTACK POINTS : ( physical / mental / magical etc . close and ranged combat Skills & Power ) 2 # DEFENSE POINTS : ( including basic physical composition , Amour & EVEN Evasiveness in Combat - not to take a fatal blow in the head etc . ) 3 # HEALTH POINTS : ( How much Life/constitution you have ; Endurance & willpower ) (2 Out of COMBAT characteristics : But still effect Overall Situations and outcomes ) 4 # STRENGTH ( How much weight items/weapons you can keep/carry in your back pack and hold/use , ALSO move object in the world etc ) 5 # SPEED ( How agile / quickly you can move , or Evade a potential fight ) EXAMPLE : To use your 100 points , depends on what Character Design you want to achieve – ( No more Random Luck OR rolling of Dice to decide your BASE scores ! …no need cheating anymore to get a high Combat , Endurance Points etc ! ) SOLDIERS TYPICAL: CHARACTERISCS (You want a close combat fight ! need a decent Attack and able to carry a heavy weapon & armor class weight ,- BUT not speed , stealth or evasiveness to run away/evade ) / Attack P 28 / Defense P 22 / Health P 20 / Strength P 20 / Speed…P 10…../ WIZARD TYPICAL CHARACTERICS ( You want to cast your spell or summon minions from distance , avoiding close combat but attack/strike first from afar ) / Attack P 25 / Defense P 15 / Health P 23 / Strength P 10 / Speed P 27 / NOTE : Of course you can create a much more Individual Character and not so ‘typical’ Use your World of LONE WOLF knowledge and be CREATIVE ! FINLAY in BATTLE SYSTEM : ( Same Logic as an RTS computer game , eg Warcraft or Age of Empires etc - ) COMBAT RULES – Soldier VS Wizard……. --------.VERY SIMPLE --------------- Highest Speed Points , normally ATTACK FIRST ( Wizard ) Wizard has 25 Attack P , Vs Soldier Defense P 22 = difference 3 DAMAGE for Soldier ( BASE Health P 20 – Now 17 Health P ) NEXT TURN Soldier has 28 Attack P , VS Wizard Defense P 15 = difference 13 DAMAGE for Wizard ( BASE Health P 23 – Now 10 Health P ) OBVIOUS OUTCOME ; Even though the quicker Wizard strikes first , this CHARATER is NOT DESIGNED for fighting personally himself…( like Vonator the traitor - But rather summoning some creature to do his bidding or striking from a distance with a Magic Bolt etc) Of course in CLOSE COMABT the soldier would win. CONCLUSION : What is FUN about LONE WOLF is that the Characters should remain different , So if you want to be an ‘attacking aggressive Vonatar’ and all your minions are dead > Solution , get a Power Ring ITEM , etc ! Please direct any questions first to me , …… comments later after you check and make sure if you could understand this combat system. ( ITEMS EXPLANATION , NEXT ! )
