Project Aon has released today book 22 of the LW series, The Buccaneers of Shadaki, probably the most rare book of the series. Instead of spending your weekly pay-check on eBay to get this book, you can now simply read it for free on the web! From PA: "In The Buccaneers of Shadaki, your quest is to deliver this stone of power to the Shianti who are exiled upon the mystical Isle of Lorn. Will your vital quest succeed, or will you fall foul of the pirates and perils that infest the southern seas of Magnamund?"This is part 2 of the adventure started in Voyage of the Moonstone. Enjoy! www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/22tbos/title.htm

Bloody hell! Now I need to download Book 21 and get playing. So busy at the moment though, and these two deserve an evening set aside for gaming fun. Maybe sometime early next week...

Now PA is releasing the things I'm actually glad I've not read these books before, because now I get to read them for the first time. Which is awesome.

The new order books are impossibly hard.
I rolled a 5 for CS giving me a strating score of 30 add another 5 for my kai weapon and I was psyched.
Sadly after my first encounter my hopes are dashed (oppenent of CS 42). so i'm fighting at -7 throw in my notorious streak of bad dice rolling and I barely survive. I drink a potion (myonly one) and restore 4 points whoopee! My next fight is just as bad (opponent cs 40) I win but i now have 2 endurance left (started with 36)
no more potions and guess what you can only heal up to 10 points of endurance with curing skill per adventure this time.
things are looking grim. I change my kai name to scaredy cat and run away from everything and i mean everything. Peasants being raped and murdered! Sorry, wish I could help. Legendary monster loose from it's ancient prison! Go bug somebody else will you.
So I run and hide and sneak and runaway screaming like a little girl form everything in the book and somehow manage to reach elzian.
Hooray for me!!! What's that you need me to keep going on my quest CRap!!!
So scaredy cat gathers up his things, now fully healed and gets to choose a new discipline I take weaponskill sword +5 yes. My new CS when fighting with my kai weapon is now 40. watch out baddies here I come.
My new mantra of stay out of trouble serves me well. twice I am asked if i wish to frequent a tavern. I decline, that way lies trouble my son. I dont fight anyone, even give up peacefully to the city guards. I escape from prison (guards are inept all over magnamund) find my equipment and make my way out. Run into an old flame sort of (damn monkish vows) find the rooftops, she leans in for a little smooch her boyfriend shows up damn they want me to fight him. Time to test my new improved skills bwaa haa haa Opponent cs 53, crap down by thirteen. wait it doesnt say anything about being immune to mindblast take that down by 11. it gets even better I can evade combat after two rounds so this isnt even a fight to the death. I pick up my dice and roll.....a 2 automatic kill. hmm first fight first swing...dead you have got to be kidding me. seriously now come on.
My synapses fire and my eight grade teachers words ring through my mind. YOu are always looking for loopholes young man, I hope you dont grow up to be a lawyer.
Lets see now our fight began at dawn and i am wielding kaistar +2 cs when used at night. technically there should still be some darkness and stars up at least to the west of me I propose a compremise +1 CS. pushing me to -10 ratio and voila -8 end but still kicking.
Needless to say after this fight I trade and sell nearly everything in my backpack and buy tons of laumspur potions.
If you have a rope and wish to use it. What kind of question is that of course I dont have a rope takes up too much room. sheesh I you have enough money to pay. money hell no, I used it all up buying potions. silly book with your silly questions.
If the books keep getting tougher I am so screwed. play at your own risks
scaredy cat out!

The GM series started off hard as well, but the +1 CS +2EP bonus that comes with each new Discipline made every book after Deathlord of Ixia really easy. I've only read the first two New Order books but I'm betting it plays out the same way.
Also, Kai-Surge is your friend. +8CS at a cost of 1EP per round is a bargain. Pity Curing got nerfed but you can't have everything.

You need either Kai surge or Grand weaponmastery to stand a good chance in the New Order series. If you take both then you will normally do quite well in the fights. Not too difficult to make it with only one of them if your start CS is 32-34.
If you are using Mindblast and rolling on the -11 row then you are doing something wrong, at least if you would be rolling on -7/-8 if you used Kai surge instead.
Book 22 is probably the most difficult of the early New Order Books, but it does come with a +2 CS item which you cannot readily miss which makes adventure after it easier.
Apart from that you need IMO one of the magic disciplines or elementalism since lacking all three of these is generally not a good idea.

I don't know how the translator made the mistake, but in the French version of the book, the same item is said to provide a +9CS bonus. No wonder that I found the series extremely easy in the first place!

I tend to not get too hung up on teh gameplay issues. I liked the makeshift prophet at the oceanfront that catches the wind and makes predictions. I thought that was a kinda cool touch on giving a hint.

Hahaha, that was a fun post, wildhare!
;D
You're right though; one of the reasons I've played the New Order books less than the others is because they're so damn hard. And I think the expanded number of Disciplines actually makes it them harder, because there's less chance of you having the right one in any given situation.

absolutely, bardsmanship sounds cool but really now what practical use is it going to be in the game when I can barely survive a fight.
Now if you could sing yourself to good health, maybe
